Can Muslims issue a fatwa on non-Muslims?

YOURSAY ‘The enactment was passed 10 years ago by Gerakan-led Penang gov’t.’

Gerakan wants Lim to explain role in 2010 fatwa

Myrights: First, it was MCA. Now, Gerakan. Do they actually think this is going to win them votes?

There are so many things Umno is doing to the detriment of non-Muslims, yet they don't dare to even squeak.

Seriously, MCA and Gerakan, you really are out of touch with reality. Sometimes, I wish that I could like your parties, so that we have alternatives to DAP, but each time you pick on DAP instead of raising real concerns affecting the people, you get me even more angry with you.

It tells me that all you are doing is not for the good of the people but you are just doing Umno's dirty work.

That is why I am quite certain that MCA and Gerakan should pack your bags and close shop. Or do a complete overhaul and change the leaders.

Focus on issues that really matter to the people. Stop playing politics and serve the people. When the people see real sincerity and maturity, they may return.

Until then, and as long as you keep playing these stupid games, you are just digging yourself a bigger hole.

Gerard Lourdesamy: How dumb can Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng get?

All fatwas to be enforceable must be gazetted by the state government under the relevant state Islamic law enactment after it is approved by the State Islamic Religious Council and consented to by the YDPA (Yang di-Pertua Agong) as head of Islam in Penang.

The fatwa is binding on Muslims but not non-Muslims. The 40 words prohibited in the fatwa including ‘Allah’ are words that non-Muslims cannot use for the purposes of propagating their religions to Muslims.

If they do so, they can be charged in the civil court by the attorney-general as public prosecutor.

What the CM said was that no state Islamic enactment prohibits non-Muslims from using the word ‘Allah’ in their own scriptures and forms of worship. The restriction is only limited to propagation to Muslims.

Where was Gerakan when the state Islamic enactment was first passed in 2004 allowing the Muslim religious authorities to encroach upon the rights of non-Muslims? Sleeping I guess.

Justice Fairness: Gerard, your line of argument on why LGE (Lim Guan Eng) should endorse and gazette the fatwa is very dangerous.

"The 40 words prohibited in the fatwa including Allah are words that non-Muslims cannot use for the purposes of propagating their religions to Muslims."

Wouldn't that be the exact same reason why any state government would want to ban the use of the word ‘Allah’?

Whatif: The other day, a MCA leader spoke. This time a Gerakan leader speaks on the same issue.

The ban on those words is for anti-propagation. So, you cannot use those words when you want to preach to Muslims about your religion.

In fact, you cannot even preach to Muslims at all. Do you understand? May be not.

Maharaja: Can Muslims issue a fatwa on non-Muslims? If it is alright, then just issue a fatwa that with immediate effect that all non-Muslim cannot eat pork and cannot worship other gods other than Allah.

All problems solved and everyone become Malay and all Malaysians will become ‘satu bangsa’, ‘satu bahasa’, ‘satu budaya’, ‘satu agama’, and ‘satu Malaysia’ and Malaysia Boleh.

Wira: Gerakan, the Penang State Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2004 was passed 10 years ago by the Gerakan-led government. That shows your party had the intention to implement it.

If not, why leave a time bomb behind? You guys are just like those MCA leaders in Selangor who have passed those enactments. Don't you think Gerakan and MCA owe an explanation to the non-Muslims too?

Lionheart: Liang, apart from adding fuel to fire, what has Gerakan done to service the rakyat? The ‘yesman’ to the ruling administration?

Has the present Gerakan ever questioned the administration? When your master threw s**t at the rakyat, you say, "It is good food, quick eat it."

The rakyat doesn't want Gerakan to be a smart aleck. Converge your resources and focus on corruption. This is where bread and butter of the rakyat are. Do you hear us, Gerakan?

Anonymous_1371477558: Liang, have you got nothing better to do than pick on issues like this when there are more pressing matters pertaining to corruption by the BN government.

Why don't you raise those issues?

My Opinion: That's what I said a few days ago. Islam is a tool even used by non-Muslims to destroy other non-Muslims. Is only evil people will use such a tool for their own selfish purposes.
