Hadi should do away with general elections, too

YOURSAY 'He is more scared of the Chinese than of Umno running the country.'

Local polls may lead to May 13, Hadi warns DAP

Gerard Lourdesamy : What rubbish! May 13 did not occur because of local government elections and they were abolished much later.

There has been a huge migration of Malays into urban areas so the city, town and municipal councils will be equally represented by Malays and non-Malays alike.

As for the rural and district councils, it will still be dominated by Malays. So what is PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang afraid of apart from an erosion of ‘ketuanan Melayu’ because at present, with the exception of a few cities and towns in Sabah and Sarawak, all other local councils are dominated by Malays.

If democracy is about majority rule, why must it be negated at the local government level? If PAS is worried, perhaps local elections can be implemented using proportional representation like the single transferable vote or party lists system to ensure equal and fair representation for all races.

Swipenter : Another politician using May 13 to threaten us. In the kampungs, you can appoint your lackeys to be ‘penghulus’ (village heads).

At least in local elections, you have a choice as to who you want to represent you. That person can be a Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayak, Martian, and even Hadi Awang.

Anonymous_1419577444 : I laughed till my stomach hurt when I read this. I'll be kind and suggest that DAP arrange a meeting with Hadi to explain how local council elections work, both the pros and cons. Of course, the first hurdle is to get Hadi to come to the meeting.

Well Thats Fantastic: How is democratic choice a security risk? Please enlighten us all, Hadi.

Odysseus: Hadi is becoming more and more like an Umno member than a PAS leader. He is making people wonder if religion is solely identified by race and not by the values the religion espoused.

A local council is responsible for whatever and whoever under its purview regardless or race, religion and wealth.

The local council is neither a rich man’s council nor a poor man's council or to be identified by race or religion. It's a council for Malaysians to work for the welfare of fellow Malaysians. We are all Malaysians and we look after everyone.

Sabahan: I cannot believe PAS is led by someone who cannot think rationally and clearly. By what stretch of imagination can a democratic process like local elections lead to a May 13 incident?

Learn from Indonesia. They have reinstated local elections because not to do so will lead to unrest.

Caripasal: For a non-Malay to win the local election, he/she needs the support of the super-majority Malays. They can only win if the smart Malays opt for the non-Malay candidate.

Hence, how could local elections trigger a May 13 if the majority of smart Malays support a non-Malay candidate?

And what's wrong for having a non-Malay in the local council, instead of idiots like you, Hadi?

Anonymous_1397711138: If we go by Hadi’s logic, the federal elections should be eliminated too because the country is also made up of cities, towns and villages.

How silly it is when such a statement is made by someone no less than a party president with one million members.

Haveagreatday: Grow up, Hadi. Most Malaysians have put the ghost of May 13 behind them. That is why they are called local polls - it's meant for the voters in that locality.

So, if that locality happens to be dominated by Chinese, what's wrong with that? He is missing the tree for the forest. What is the percentage of Malays in our Malaysian population?

Anonymous_1378093545: Stop threatening us with May 13, Hadi. That is going to the grave with you and your kind.

We are progressive Malaysians who want to move forward without fear and favour or giving credence to race, religion, nor to the venom that pours out of people like you who, thank God, are the minority.

We wish to be on par with the rest of the progressive world and do not need the likes of you to lead us.

Baiyuensheng: They are more scared of the Chinese than of Umno running the country. How worse can things get compared to the evils and incompetence of Umno?

I just don't understand, it is always about race with them, whether it is PAS or Umno.

Caripasal: The biggest threat to this country is no longer race riots like May 13, but idiotic politicians like you.

My Chinese friends tell me they will never support PAS for doing the 'good deed' in Selangor (during the MB crisis). PAS will become a mosquito party and will go into oblivion.

Don't take the Chinese for fools. Your racist remarks will see the end of your power. Mark my words. You will see it in the coming elections. PAS will be demolished.

Lionking: That is the trouble when you get a so-called mullah who dabbles in politics and that too a mullah that belongs to the dinosaur era.

Ketuanan Rakyat: Hadi is moving towards Umnoputras type of logic and thinking. It’s time for PAS to get rid of him as their leader, or leave Pakatan Rakyat immediately.

Sali Tambap: What's the difference between Umno and Abdul Hadi Awang? None. Both are racists and religious bigots.
