Blaming others for own faults is the M’sian culture

YOURSAY ‘It doesn't matter who gets the blame, but there has to be a scapegoat.’

Unfair to blame Australia for Sirul's case, says QC

Vijay47 : Now that a party to a murder charge has coolly flown the coop, such laxity is the fault of everyone else except the attorney-general, the inspector-general of police, the home minister, and the rest of the boys. Damn the Chinese, Jews, and Christians.

As a traffic policeman would say, " Jadi, macam mana sekarang ?" (So, what now?)

All is not lost. I am sure that our Intrepid Duo - of Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah - will soon don their capes, leap over tall buildings, and fly faster than a speeding bullet to bring home the bacon, if I may be allowed to say that.

And just to be on the safe side, Zahid will write - in his inimitable style - to Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot and Queen Elizabeth II, on how imperative it is that Sir Sirul Azhar Umar be returned to Malaysia where his services are eagerly awaited in further defence of the realm.

Just a final thought - what if Malaysia promises that the death penalty will not be applied to Sirul and then goes on to do him in? What can Australia do except stamp its feet? And any way, it will do zilch to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's present reputation.

Jadi, macam mana ?

Abasir : Queen Counsel Mark Trowell, as "a keen observer in Malaysian affairs" should know that not taking steps to prevent Sirul from absconding was no egregious oversight - not an innocent omission by a grossly incompetent prosecution.

If he had followed the case with the diligence it required, he would have concluded - as have all decent, god-fearing Malaysians - that this was a grand, elaborate conspiracy to ensure that the guilty masterminds and beneficiaries would remain free, even as those declared guilty would ultimately get to vacation in Australia.

Louis : Who says it is unfair to blame Australia? As a regular viewer of ‘Border Security: Australia's Front Line’, very often the immigration officers send travellers on the first flight home if he or she fails to declare their past criminal records, which of course, is less serious than Sirul's.

Even my friend - a bona fide visitor - was questioned for over an hour when he failed to provide an address in Australia. And it is real funny that a killer who blew his victim to bits could get into Australia so easily.

The immigration has a lot to explain.

Oracle : It is unfair to blindly blame Australian Immigration. If one buys a ticket through a regular travel agent, the agent can, and usually, issues an e-visa - thus, no queuing or presentation of papers.

And the Australian Immigration cannot do a detailed "fugitive" check on everybody going in!

As with all immigrations, they do random spot checks, and contrary to popular belief, Aussies do not assiduously read every Malaysian papers everyday. They have better things to do.

Hello : Mark Trowell has reiterated what I had commented earlier i.e. why did the judiciary not impose conditions on the defendants’ bail?

There is no surrender of passports, no ankle bracelets, no reports to police stations at fixed times daily, etc. This murder case smells of the complicity of the authorities involved in the case.

With Sirul in Australia, will the Umno government carry out the sentence on the other convicted murderer or will there be other excuses? I won't be surprised.

Spirit of Malaya : Wow! Fantastic isn't it - a police corporal gets convicted for murder by the highest court in Malaysia and then comes the news that he's on vacation and living with his family in Australia.

Personally, I feel very shameful towards my own family for not providing them with such a holiday, despite having the financial means - I mean, if a police corporal could afford it, why can't someone in senior management? I think I had better join the PDRM.

Hmmmmmmmm : If Sirul doesn't come clean on this affair, he will be known officially in all eternity as the murderer of Altantuya. His family and descendants will forever live with that stigma over them.

Dumno : To the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), Perkasa and all so-called Muslim NGOs: How is it that a convicted killer is seeking protection from the land of infidels? I don't see you guys making noises about it.

Factnot fiction : The Malaysian Attorney-General’s Chambers is run by idiots. The only clever thing they know is to blame others and serve as an extension of the ruling party’s arms to selectively persecute Malaysians.

Anonymous_1371458513 : This situation has arisen because we have a very ‘efficient’ government.

Speaking sense : It is very clear that all this is Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's fault.

The Analyser : Malaysians will always find someone to blame if it means covering up their own incompetence. It doesn't matter who gets the blame, but there has to be a scapegoat.
