KINIBIZ AirAsia X’s board of directors will meet on Thursday to decide on the fate of chief executive officer (CEO) Azran Osman Rani, sources say.

When contacted by KiniBiz , AirAsia X chairperson and former trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz said she had “no comment” to questions regarding Azran’s position.

Rafidah ( left ) also refused to confirm that a board meeting will be convened on the matter.

It is understood from sources that the meeting will be held the day after AirAsia founder and group CEO Tony Fernandes returns from Davos, Switzerland. Fernandes is also a non-independent non-executive director of AirAsia X.

Other AirAsia X board members include AirAsia co-founder Kamarudin Meranun, Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan, Fam Lee Ee, Lim Kian Onn and Kiyotaka Tanaka - all of whom are non-independent non-executive directors. Others include Asmat Kamaludin and Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, who are independent non-executive directors

This morning, several sources in AirAsia X told KiniBiz that Azran was on his way out of the long haul budget carrier.

One source said, “He (Azran) has not sent out the standard CEO letter to all his staff saying that he is leaving... (but) it has been strong talk around the office.”
