Zahid dares not face Mkini over Phua-gate

YOURSAY ‘Zahid is trying to avoid questions that he does not want to answer.’

Mkini barred from Zahid event, 'spin' claimed

Odin: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysiakini has published reports that portrayed or implied you as a liar and a traitor to your country by your sharing of ultra-sensitive information with the convicted criminal Paul Phua - and only you and Allah know with how many others besides him.

If any of these is not true and thus constitutes spinning, then sue Malaysiakini for defamation. The fact that you instead are avoiding Malaysiakini by barring its reporters from covering your events serves to confirm its reports as true, and whatever such reports may have portrayed directly or implied of you to be correct too.

Sali Tambap: Any other ways you see it, Malaysiakini highlighting of Zahid's recommendation letter for gambler kingpin, Paul Phua, and their subsequent investigation into the latter's past police record in Malaysia, particularly in the state of Sarawak, must really have piqued him off.

Ministers in Malaysia are not used to have newspaper reporting candid news about them, especially if it is on personal misconduct. It is no surprise that this particular news is not reported in mainstream newspapers.

One may wonder if the fact that their yearly publication licences are under the Home Ministry, of which Zahid is the minister in charge, has got to do with it. So now Malaysiakini is barred from covering his ministry-related events, and the day before it was Prime Minister’s Office .

The only people who are really the worse off by this ruling are the ordinary Malaysian public who hunger for uncensored and uncontrolled information from credible news dispensers of their choices.

Kingfisher: It is often assumed that cowards and bullies tend to cower under some form of protective device when confronted with extraneous domineering entities out to challenge and expose their true form.

The genuinely confident and at times even termed as positively arrogant often assume responsibility for their indiscretion, accept necessary reprimand and consequences for their failure.

One would like to think that our leaders are those with such calibre, and not lash out and blame others for their failings.

Gordon Gecko: Zahid, don't worry too much. Your reputation is already in tatters following the ‘Sabah kia’ saga.

Furthermore, I don't think many kampung voters in your Bagan Datoh constituency subscribes to Malaysiakini .

And most certainly your Umno members will not mind your reputation as long as "the price is right" during the Umno general assembly.

Lamborghini: We have a government that claims to be democratic but its senior ministers are afraid of their own shadows. Zahid has always portrayed himself as a hero but here he is afraid to allow a popular news portal to cover his events.

He is only brave when he is covered by the mainstream, prejudiced and pro-government media that constantly spin stories about the opposition and NGOs and courageous individuals who dare to question the government and demand accountability for its actions and policies.

This man and DPM Muhiyidin Yassin don't understand what real democracy is all about.

NNFC: This goes to show that Zahid is trying to avoid questions that he does not want to answer. A poor show for a minister who can't even explain his actions to the people.

Thinking Citizen_1403620863: In short, Zahid wants those media owned by BN, especially Utusan Malaysia which has been sued and lost umpteen times on defamation.

Ever wonder why the nation is reading alternative media because the government-owned media write trash and skew everything to the benefit of the ruling politicians.

Avatar_3e8a: A bully and a coward - nothing more, nothing less. In any other normal democratic country, Zahid should have resigned and/or have been sacked from the cabinet.  Not Malaysia.

Ipohcrite: Even when Utusan , the pro-Umno and government mouthpiece spins, they get equal coverage and publication in Malaysiakin i.

Of course, parties aggrieved by Utusan's spin took them to court and made them pay. Utusan is tops in this department, that is, got sued for its false reporting. But Malaysiakin i ? I can't recall when it was ever punished in court as such by any aggrieved party.

Zahid is just scared that Malaysiakini will report the truth.

Malaysia Ku: In this age and time, what news can stay hidden? Barring the most independent electronic media site in Malaysia simply amplifies Zahid's fear of all the shadows that are chasing him. There is no escape for him.

The day of reckoning is here and now. Phua-gate is the final nail on the coffin for this minister.

Wg321: If Malaysiakini news stories are biased against Zahid and "spin" his stories, I am very sure that Malaysiakini will give him the right to reply. He can correct whatever mistakes that he deemed are not correct.

We would like to hear both sides of the stories. After that it is up to Malaysiakini readers to judge who is more convincing.

Victor Johan: Zahid, why you and Muhyiddin barred Malaysiakini from covering news events at your ministries?

If they spin stories, you can take them to your courts and put them behind the bars. You are acting like small kids, "I don't want to friend you, you cannot come to my house and play with my toys. I'll tell my father and mother."

Nah, here, I give you a chocolate bar. Now go back home, but don't cry to mommy.
