Ex-NST boss hardly bastion of free press

YOURSAY ‘Kadir, what about media blackout on the opposition during your time?’

Kadir: Why deny PM's brothers' right of reply?

Ong: With typical 'ketuanan' mentality, former New Straits Times (NST) group editor-in-chief A Kadir Jasin was likely to also behave the same way during his time as NST chief, censuring articles and statements that he deemed to be detrimental to his then political bosses.

Anonymous #19098644: Kadir, when you were NST chief, did you ever give Pakatan Rakyat leaders Anwar Ibrahim, Abdul Hadi Awang or Lim Kit Siang the right of reply? When has the government media ever given the opposition the right of reply?

So why must Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's brothers have this special privilege when the BN-linked media has never practised such media professionalism?

Vijay47: It is surprising how some time in the cold can guide certain folks to discover the chasm between right and wrong or to find out the existence of basic rules of journalism.

We have former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad preaching to us of the glorious things a nation must practise to lift it to levels of honour and decency, so glaringly destroyed and missing ever since a certain gentleman from Kerala was calling the shots.

And now we have his faithful servant singing the same song. How about you and the New Straits Times , Kadir, what great journalistic integrity did you have in place in your "terribly wrong" newspaper?

Spare us this utter rubbish; with your track record, you and Mahathir are the last persons to talk about doing the done thing. Even hypocrisy has its limits.

Anonymous #01428088: Indeed, which PM has ever allowed "freedom of expression" in Malaysia?

Bac: Save it Kadir. You had your fair share of the same behaviour when you were with NST.

To the four brothers, your father's integrity does not score full marks. But he is your father. Being his sons, is that all you four can and will do - just issuing a statement to salvage his name?

Anonymous_40f4: In Malaysia, we don’t have newspapers like other countries. We only have Umno-BN propaganda newsletters, which any right-thinking citizen will never buy.

They spew lies and propaganda all the way. The broadcast media is even worse.

Where Got Problem: If your brothers are against your statement, which implicates their father being rich when he was not as he was an honest PM, then something is terribly wrong with you. Only retards will defend you.

RCZ: I will say this again. What are the Razak brothers, who are powerful men, going to do about this? Are they going to let their brother and sister-in-law get away with this improper answer as to where their wealth is from?

If the Razak brothers remain silent, they are no better than Najib. Furthermore, let's not forget one brother's involvement in private investigator P Balasubramaniam incident.

Is he going to come out with the truth? People are going to jail for raising all these issues and the Razak brothers are standing by doing nothing.

Tok Karut: Kadir, do one on the ringgit slide and how the PM and finance minister has no clue on how to fix this. Soon we would be carrying bags of ringgit to go to the fish market.

We may have to eat tapioca along with its skin like in Japanese occupation times, according to my mother who is past 80. Would you recommend what Dr M did the last time when we had so much trouble with so little value for our money?

Is there a reliable (no need for world class, just reliable will do) economic and financial adviser in the Umno house?

Viviyan Jack: What happen to Malaysiakini nowadays? I think there are other more important issues. And Kadir, you should mind your own business. This is just a family matter.

Je Suis Malaysia: Hopefully, the current Barisan cybertroopers (who are Malaysiakini subscribers too) understand the importance of impartial mainstream media.

Soon it will be their turn to say the same thing I am saying.

Slumdog: I think that Najib’s four brothers have reached the point where they cannot remain silent. Najib has dishonoured the good name of their father and their proud family name.

In addition, he has been at the centre of so many personal and government scandals and have often displayed his and his wife Rosmah Mansor’s lavish lifestyle.

They cannot support their brother any longer. True to his form, Najib will remain silent and let the lackeys in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) do all the talking for him.

Clearwater: There is no rift between the four Razak brothers and Rosmah. There is an unbridgeable chasm and it is no family secret.

SusahKes: Thanks Kadir for continuing to put the heat on Najib and Co. Umno is about to experience self-implosion. It's worth watching.
