Don’t sweep Sarawak Report on 1MDB under carpet

YOURSAY 'Public deserves to know truth, and the law enforced without exception.'

PMO: 1MDB exposé may be 'politically-motivated'

Louis: Politically motivated or not, the facts are already laid bare for all to see. Those correspondences could not be fictitious and the people named were not made up. It is time Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak came out from his long hibernation and explain in detail all these allegations .

As chairman, he simply cannot run away from these alleged dubious dealings. RM2 billion is a lot of money. Don't take the public for granted. We need to know what happens to this astronomical amount of money.

RCZ: Let's see whether the law will be enforced without exception. If indeed there was a cooked up 'loan' and 1MDB paid this US$700 million for it, then it is quite easy to check when and what this loan was given for.

The person who can shed light and truth on the entire deal and where the US$700 million actually went is 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy .

Let him give the reply and the documents to support the reply because we don't believe his wonderful unsupported media statements. We want to see the documents.

Theft is theft. IGP, MACC, wither art thou? Please speak to Arul Kanda and take along an independent accountant when you do.

Dalvik: This clearly shows why the prime minister and finance minister posts shouldn't be held by the same person. In this case, it shows many things can go wrong and it is hard to make individuals accountable at an early stage.

Commentable: Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is absolutely right when he said “somebody must be doing something stupid”. I'd say for the sake of the country, now is not the time to feign or act stupid. The expose is serious and it is ridiculous of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to brush it off as "politically-motivated".

How can this be politically-motivated when the 1MDB scandal (or rip-off) is a done deal? And how can this scandal be linked to any political motivation when it is not the opposition party who connived and staged the scam?

The fact that 1MDB’s accounts are audited by Delloite does not prove that the allegations in the Sarawak Report are fictitious.

There should be a high level independent body appointed to look into and investigate the truth of the matter and a report of it made public. Otherwise the statement "if any wrongdoing is proven, the law will be enforced without exception", by PMO is farcical and only adds to the meaning of stupidity that we have seen so far.

Kelate: Why did PMO just dismiss it as politically motivated? Shouldn't it be "fabricated lies" and we will "sue Sarawak Report ?". Isn’t not denying that it is a lie admitting that it is true? Is MACC still sleeping? Jetlagged from 2009?

Anonymous #59879079: Wrongdoings are wrongdoings and it does not matter if it happened back in 2009 or if the emails referring to the wrongdoings are old.

PMO, please confirm that if any wrongdoing is proven, the PMO will prosecute the PM since it said the law will be enforced without exception. The ball is now in 1MDB's court to disprove the email communications. The PMO just dismissing them does not make them go away.

Soo Jin Hou: Najib, just tell us how the RM2 billion loan was settled.

Anonymous_4031c: PMO is right. To dispel all doubts on the matter, the PM and/or 1MDB board should reveal all to shut its critics up once and for all and show how the governing body in 1MDB has excelled to create value for its investment.

Where Got Problem: Both tycoon Jho Low and Najib claimed to have inheritances when everyone knows their fathers were not all that rich. In the case of Najib, even his brothers have denied (their father was wealthy).

Wong Lue Woon: The shit has hit the fan. Now it’s the test of fire for the independent MACC to show it is not a tiger without fangs. To the rakyat, we must now unite to get rid of this scourge and scum and bring them to justice, regardless of their positions.

Apapunboleh: Doesn't this merit a full independent investigation? Only in Malaysia does BN government blame everything under the sun except itself.

Anonymous #19098644: Given the quantum, the impact on the Malaysian currency and economy, a royal commission of inquiry should be appointed to get to the bottom of this and to determine the truth.

There has been so much spinning, twisting and misrepresentations that the principals of 1MDB have absolutely no credibility now.

Hang Babeuf: "Politically-motivated"? Divulging these details, exposing this story, is perhaps motivated by a certain political consideration: the truth.

Odin: Whether the report on what seems a massive con job is politically motivated is completely immaterial; what is, is whether the report is factual.

Next, as to the statement that if any wrongdoing is proven, the law will be enforced without exception, one asks, is there any reliable party in Malaysia that will be allowed to conduct a proper, in-depth investigation into the matter?

And whether wrongdoings, if any, established will be dealt with in the appropriate manner or will they be swept under the carpet, like the recommendations of the various ‘Royal Comedic Investigations’ instituted so far?

Furthermore, if the report published by The Sarawak Report based on its research conducted together with UK’s The Sunday Times is misleading or erroneous, the various parties named and portrayed as conmen, therein must institute legal action against both The Sarawak Report and The Sunday Times ; otherwise, the report will be deemed accurate.

Tao Student: Be it political or whatever, the point is 1MDB is undeniably problematic and potentially to be the biggest financial scandal in Malaysia since independence, outshining the Bank Bumiputra fiasco in the 1980's.

It is no longer matter what were the behind the scenes motives in disclosing 1MDB's shit. If the company is clean there is nothing to worry about, need not to make fuss about it.

What PMO says is seen to deliberately divert public's attention and that will only fortify the belief that 1MDB is indeed involved in transgression.

What’s more, the PMO carries very little weight and credibility in what it says after Najib's four siblings collectively refuted PMO's statement on Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor over the recent wealth inheritance issue.

Fair Play: Why use the word 'politically motivated' if it was a fact. If it was merely to slander the PM, then the PM should institute a legal suit, which is not something 'new' anyway?

Malaysia is Doomed! : The 1MDB buck stops with Najib. He has to resign. Umno, what are you waiting for?
