Syed, you’re right - all should declare assets

YOURSAY ‘So will Syed urge members of the federal cabinet to do it as well?’

Declare your wealth, Umno man dares Pakatan

Kalvin Rekhraj: How does asking for a wealth declaration become a racial issue? In my opinion, all public servants must declare their wealth.

The income of ordinary citizens is scrutinised yearly by LHDN (Department of Inland Revenue) however public servants must take a step further by accounting for their wealth.

The extravagance reported by the media with regards to some of our public servants is well beyond their pay grade.

I believe the general public will accept if one is able to provide solid proof of inheritance. But until then, any allegation of extravagance should be investigated.

Mushiro: Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee is unable to defend PM Najib Razal and he is taking a racial spin on the issue of Rosmah Mansor's extravaganza and the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fiasco.

Why not Syed Ali and his brothers declared their wealth, perhaps government-awarded licences, Petronas contracts and their many other cronies-related business first?

Syed Ali should set the example before asking Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua to declare his wealth.

It is for Umno leaders like Syed Ali to expose the illegal wealth of Pakatan Rakyat leaders (if any) but these leaders are apparently too busy amassing wealth for themselves.

Lone_Star: There he goes again. The issue is about 1MDB, the lavish lifestyle of the first family and their source of wealth.

Why bring in race and the late Abdul Razak Hussein and the PM's extended family members? Who is creating hatred towards the Malay leaders?

Are you are on the same frequency, Syed Ali?

Socialist: This is a chicken-and-egg issue - who declares first?

Why can’t the Election Commission request all candidates to declare their assets? This has been practiced in India and was successful.

Will BN and Pakatan lawmakers bring up the issue in Parliament?

Ferdtan: For spending some RM2,000 on official matters which was found to be legal, DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock was interrogated overnight by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC); and was found dead the next morning outside its Selangor headquarters.

So if any Pakatan leaders have the kind of ‘obscene’ money like the many BN leaders, will more bodies like Teoh Beng Hock’s be found at the place of interrogation?

Drngsc: Amongst all the rubbish that Syed has been raving about, there is some truth on this one. Pakatan leaders must set themselves a higher standard. They should declare their income and be transparent about their wealth.

But Syed Ali, even Najib's own brothers are upset with him. Have you not read their statement ? They are telling their eldest brother not to shame their father, who was a frugal leader.

Not only Pua is pointing out the extravagance ways of Najib, Rosmah and Umno, but also his own family members and even former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

So Syed Ali, wake up.

Anonymous #19098644: Obviously the Umno politicians are too ignorant or lazy. All they need is to do is click here and see the assets declaration of the entire Penang cabinet team.

So will Syed urge the federal cabinet to do the same? To be fair, it should be made compulsory for all state exco and federal cabinet ministers to declare their assets online.

Anonymous_1386743292: Syed Ali, how does Umno remain relevant if leaders like you fail to see the gravity of the exposure of the shenanigans at 1MDB which is owned by the government itself.

It’s okay for you to call the opposition leaders to declare their wealth which they should if they want to hold public office, but it’s also the duty of the opposition to question the underhanded ways in the government’s handling of public money.

Multi Racial: This is why Umno is a dying political party. Look at the type of leaders and members they have. Instead of holding their leaders accountable, they tried to defend the indefensible leaders.

Just look at how pathetic Umno annual assembly is. It is their annual ritual of members and delegates coming together to "ampu" (apple polish) their leaders.

Anonymous_1391570393: Parliament should issue a notice and give a deadline for all members of parliament to declare their assets to the public. No exception.

Anonymous #33227154: Agree. Every public servant in high position must also declare their income tax figures to the public. The people are entitled to know. The Income Tax Department has all the data to counter check their declaration.

Keturunan Malaysia: I thought leaders are supposed to lead by example and not be lead. Oh, I see... they have forgotten about that.
