YOURSAY ‘How low can this gov’t descend to? Bottomless pits of infamy.’

PM gives one-liner to query on 1MDB loans

Kim Quek: Earlier, Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah refused to answer question on the alleged embezzlement of US$700 million from 1MDB, now Finance Minister Najib Razak refused to answer question on details of Bank Negara’s audit report on the irregularities pertaining to 1MDB’s local borrowing from Ambank.

At the rate senior ministers of key ministries are brushing aside MPs’ questions in Parliament - with full impunity or even with the sanction of the House speaker - one wonders whether there is any semblance left of Parliament as the supreme body under our polity to which the executive is fully accountable for its administration.

Mushiro: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, an "economist par excellence", said stress tests show that 1MDB will not hurt the economy.

The question is, why was Zeti talking about 1MDB not hurting the economy? Why did BNM do a stress test on 1MDB? After all, PM Najib said there was no problem with 1MDB. Umno division leaders and the cabinet also said the same.

Zeti must state the reasons why BNM did a stress test on 1MDB. What were the crucial factors that led to a stress test being done? When and for which period was the stress test done?

Obviously Zeti has reacted to the expose by MPs Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua. Didn’t BNM have their own tracking mechanism to regulate the flow of funds out of Malaysia?

Did BNM bend over backwards to accommodate Najib or Jho Low or was Zeti sleeping on the job? Malaysians have the right to know.

Malaysia Ku: Twists and turns and then more twists. Convoluted responses to legitimate enquiries are naked expositions of blatant untruths, lies, and utter lack of remorse and shame.

How low can this government descend to? Bottomless pits of infamy. Good Muslims they are, or so they proclaimed.

Roar For Truth: Indeed, the one-liner reply shows how much respect the PM cum finance minister has for Parliament.

Gov’t wants the truth on 1MDB, says Low

Appum: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low, so the government wants the truth on 1MDB?

Isn't 1MDB a government vehicle and initiated by the finance minister, in the purview of the Ministry of Finance?

You mean we have this huge monster of a sovereign fund - using government guarantees and the people's funds - and the government does not know what is really happening?

Jaycee: Low, the moment you stepped to the other side, you have lost your credibility and integrity.

Nothing you say on behalf of the government will mean much. If the government wants the truth, they should have been more frugal with taxpayers' money.

All these looting and cheating of the public funds began in the 1980s, especially with the Bumiputera Malaysia Finance (BMF) case.

Since then, the country has lost billions of dollars with no one held accountable. This has to stop.

The common denominator for all the wastage is Umno. The writing is very clear - until there is a change in government; things will remain status quo.

Sirach: Low means well, I'm sure. But the poor man probably knows no more than the rest of us do about 1MDB. Such is the shroud of secrecy on the company.

The government has been foot-dragging and obfuscating throughout this whole sad episode. It is only the pressure from the likes of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Daim Zainuddin and A Kadir Jasin that has stirred them into a semblance of accountability.

What will come out of the audit and investigations remains to be seen. I, for one, shall not be holding my breath.

MatiLoh: If the government wants the truth, it would have done this months ago. Even as recent as last month, the government said they did not take any loan from tycoon Ananda Krishnan but now it turn out to be incorrect.

And Low is talking about transparency?

Smallbigblob: So, Mr Low, you are saying the government is separate from 1MDB, even though the fund is started and backed by the Ministry of Finance, and that now the government is trying to establish what the fuss this 1MDB is all about?

Is that right? Simple, just follow the police standard operation procedure (SOP), get a remand order for the fat boy and the other boy, grill them thoroughly for the next 72 hours and if they don't give the proper answers, threaten to throw them out from the 14th floor.

And viola... you've got two birds singing.

Gaji Buta: I think Low meant the government knows the truth and is figuring out what to tell the public.
