YOURSAY ‘If a public official is accused of bad faith, the case must be heard.’

AG fails to strike out multi-million ringgit suits

Kit P: There can be no public official or minister in this country who has absolute discretion to act without accountability. That is an anathema to a democracy.

If a public official has been accused of acting mala fide (in bad faith), the case must be heard in court.

JD Lovrenciear: This gives hope that the judiciary is not sterile after all. There are still some men of honour within the Palace of Justice.

But on another note, although legal arguments may justify the attempt to strike out the appeal, one wonders how and why on earth does the attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail needs to take that route.

Stand tall and be tried. No?

Anonymous #96844426: What goes around comes around. Take that, Gani.

Katusha: Gani shouldn't have engaged Cecil Abraham as his lawyer. Wrong choice. Instead, he should have made use of the well-known, better and more expert, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

Matteropong: How much is Gani paying Cecil for the service?

Is it RM1,000 like Shafee got for being prosecutor to Anwar Ibrahim case or is it free of charge due to previous legal consultancies given to AG’s Chambers?

CQ Muar: This is where the litmus is tested to prove if justice does prevail and is very much alive in this country.

We, the citizens, are watching and hoping this is not another ‘wayang kulit’ which this country is famous for.

Gani must finally be made to face the music, be charged and convicted if we are to be convinced of that the legal system is being equitably practised in Malaysia.

Haveagreatday: The battle is still being waged but dare we hope that plaintiff Rosli Dahlan will get his day in a court and the judges will hear the facts of the case fairly?

P Dev Anand Pillai: The quorum was a good one, but the Federal Court awaits. That is where the real action lies and where it really counts. Nevertheless, good luck.

Moontime: Be a man, AG. Face them like a man if you're in the right. Then again, if you're in the wrong, be afraid, be very, very afraid...

Anti-GST activists 'revisit' Customs office

JD Lovrenciear: Dog units and riot police at the protest? My, my, what is this? Citizens are being made to look like enemies of the state.

Either the forces-that-be are panicking or they are out to make a statement that Malaysia's BN government is a zero-tolerance political party to peaceful citizens' assembly, registering their disapproval over matters that affect their daily lives.

Do we ever realise that investors are registering the developments with serious caution, or are we okay with it as we have enough dubious investments stashed away tidily?

Wg321: This morning I went to the Family Store in Seremban. I bought a 660gm of Anlene milk powder plus two cans of car coolant.

The receipt showed that the total cost was RM36.70 including RM2.08 as GST. For the rest of my life, I shall be cursing that prodigal son of the late Razak Hussein and his extravagant ‘Marie Antoinette’.

I am very sure all poor rural Malays will suffer like me, paying for his extravagant lifestyle. If the poor rural Malays still want to vote for Umno, serve them right. Let us all suffer together, urban and rural people.

Time For Change: This morning, because of GST:

1) I forked additional RM100 to renew my car insurance/road tax.

2) I was charged GST for doing online bank transfer of money.

What will I be charged GST today? I suppose I have to pay GST daily from now onwards. This is daylight robbery.

Shadow Fiend: Be open-minded. The money will go back to rakyat for infrastructure, transportation, health as well as education. It's not for the government totally.

AeGan King: GST at the rate of six percent is the lowest among Asean countries - the government is targeting revenue collected for use in development and improving social infrastructure.

The business community is also expected to enjoy a reduction in business costs through improvements in the current tax system and the elimination of overlapping elements in taxation.

Jerit: Enough, pro-GST cybertroopers. We know who you are. You don’t have to say GST is good.

You might have won this battle but the war is far from over. We will continue our campaign against GST for the benefit of our future generations.

Why should we pay GST and change our lifestyle when the government wastes national resources and spends lavishly on new jets and so on?
