In truth, Mahathir is as guilty as Najib

YOURSAY ‘By omission and commission, he is as responsible as Najib for...’

Dr M: If people not with me, why go on TV?

Onyourtoes: There is no need to speculate or investigate; the whole wide world knows it was a scam. This is what they said: RM42 billion liabilities are smaller than RM50 billion assets.

Hello, where did the assets come from? How much were government lands in Sungai Besi and Tun Razak Exchange given to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and how much were the assets revalued since?

Now it is flamboyant tycoon Jho Low. Have we forgotten Abdul Razak Baginda? What position has he got when he was given so much power to handle Malaysian submarine purchase.

I think the modus operandi is the same. Get someone from outside the government and the civil service to do all the dirty work, and make the centres of responsibility ambiguous and the line of reporting opaque.

Trueglitter: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the affairs involving PM Najib Razak and current government have declined to such deplorable and unacceptable level that your timely intervention along with your judicious queries should loudly and deservedly be applauded by right-thinking rakyat.

We acknowledge the fact that holding fast the course of your pursuit for answers from Najib with said queries might have brought many brickbats upon you from your detractors; it would, however, be appropriate to reassure you that for sake of restoring honour and integrity to our beloved nation, your invaluable and ennobled stance and contributions will be greatly appreciated.

As the saying goes, "to err is human, to forgive is divine," hence whatever shortcomings occurred during your premiership should not be a deterrent to your quest for the "honest truth".

Abasir: Mahathir, given all that you have now openly admitted, you are as guilty as Najib.

Instead of evaluating someone on the basis of talent and character, you ignored all of Najib's nonsense such as Port Dickson, Scorpene submarines and later Altantuya Shaariibuu, etc, to hoist him up just because he is Razak Hussein's son.

Now the price of your immense self-centred shortsightedness has to be paid by all Malaysians.

By omission and commission, you are as responsible as this pretender for the country’s malaise.

Odin: Mahathir, the PM went on TV because he did not - and still does not - have the bollocks to face intelligent reporters asking probing, awkward questions that he would not have been able to answer without incriminating himself or his accomplices or both.

And, of course, it was a taped interview - one obviously conducted according to a script.

Did he not portray himself as a dishonest low-life form when he was interviewed live by CNN's Christiane Amanpour at the end of October 2013 in London?

Mosquitobrain: Indeed, Najib goes on air so that he can continue telling his one-sided and never ending lies to those poor kampong folks.

He knows the city folks will never listen to him. Moreover, by going on TV in such a manner, he did not need to see you face to face.

Anonymous_1421406986: Dr M, why you imposing restrictions on Najib as to who he should speak to and through what mode of media?

You may not be realising this, but you are actually exposing your restless mental discontent or frustration.

People are beginning to revisit your many decisions and the effects they had on the people and this country during your reign. People see you as an iconic Malay intellect, and it is preferred you be seen and heard less to safeguard your reputation.

It hurts to see people tearing at you and dissecting your prattling, and giving it a thousand other meanings. You may also be hurting your family, especially your wife, Siti Hasmah.

Anonymous_1371515574: Dr M, this is your doing. And if you are sincere about fixing the country, then you should question the unfair electoral rules and the gerrymandering.

To everyone else, remember that getting rid of Najib is not the answer. There is a bigger picture and a bigger agenda here.

The country needs smart Malaysians with strong integrity to run it, irrespective of race or religion.

JD Lovrenciear: Tun Dr M, I salute you. Your wisdom rings a loud bell but will the stooges want to hear?

At your age, you could have chosen to rest, recreate and entertain yourself with a 'retired' life, frolicking in the sun and sandy beaches.

But no, you choose to stand up and speak up even though some of your own buddies who licked success from your palms are talking down now.

Not to worry Tun, millions more of the rakyat, including honourable opposition politicians, will salute you. Let us together save this nation.

It is not about "giving a chance" to them. In politics, there is no "chance". Either you deliver now, or you ship out.

Tailek: Mahathir, many people will not agree with many of the things you have done during your administration but I daresay the majority of the rakyat are totally supportive of you in this questioning of the PM regarding 1MDB and the Altantuya murder.

The people only want to know the simple truth.
