The police are investigating two incidents involving the burning of political flags at Felda Selancar 2 in Rompin yesterday.
Head of the police media centre for the Rompin by-election, Supt Abdul Aziz Mahmud, said the two cases were being investigated for mischief and damage.
Upon conviction, offenders are liable to be jailed a maximum of two years or fined, or both.
In a statement in Rompin today, Abdul Aziz advised all political supporters to abide by the law and cease creating tension amongst themselves.
He said a special task force was set up solely for crime prevention during the by-election.
The by-election is held following the death of incumbent Rompin MP Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
The May 5 polling day for the Rompin parliamentary constituency which has 53,294 voters, will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Hasan Arifin and PAS’ Nazri Ahmad.
