PMTG PAUH Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi today slammed a pro-Umno ustaz for resurrecting an old Utusan Malaysia report accusing him of conspiring with a group of pastors to set up a Christian state.

He said this in reference to Rujhan Abdul Rahman, who waved the news clipping about at a BN ceramah on the Permatang Pauh campaign trail last night.

“We all know that the entire BN campaign in Permatang Pauh is a complete failure, hence Umno had to employ the service of a political ustaz named Rujhan Abdul Rahman, to stoke religious hatred among the voters,” said Ooi in a statement.

Ooi ( right ) had in May 2011 lodged a police report over Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia 's front-page story entitled 'Kristian Agama Rasmi ' (Christianity is the official religion), accusing the newspaper of malicious reporting.

“In fact, I had raised a written question in the Parliament, asking the home minister about the veracity of the allegation on the Christian state and whether anyone had been found guilty,” Ooi added.

Ooi pointed out the ministry had said the case was classified as "no further action".

"This is solid proof that the Utusan Malaysia reports about the Christian state conspiracy was a fabrication for Umno’s political agenda and both the attorney-general and the police could not take any action.”

“Hence, it is an insult to Islam and the Muslims themselves that BN had imported a pro-Umno political ustaz to fool the voters in Permatang Pauh by resorting to the same absolute lies,” he said.

Ooi urged voters to reject the Umno attempt to fish for votes through the stoking of racial hatred.
