Convenient excuse - ‘Groom paid for wedding’

YOURSAY ‘And just as conveniently, RM24mil ring viewed by groom’s mother.’

PM's aide: Kadir seems alien to Malay culture

ABS: This is a desperate attempt by PM’s aide Rizal Mansor to justify things. It’s better to keep silent. As far as Malay practice goes, each side hosts their own ‘kenduri’.

And here, we are told the wedding reception in Kuala Lumpur was hosted by the bride's side, but paid for by the groom's side?

And as others have mentioned, we have never seen a case where groom's side pays full board and travel for the bride's entourage to attend their kenduri... bizarre.

Retired Citizen: Rizal, I am more than 60 years old and this is the first time that I’ve heard that in Malay custom the groom’s family foot the bill of the wedding reception on the bride's side.

In Malay custom, the groom sends ‘wang hantaran’ as gift. Of course, the bride can spend the ‘wang hantaran’ for the wedding reception; but it is not the same as the groom footing the bill.

Giving a gift and footing the wedding reception bill are two different things. Any expenses on the bride's side is always borne by the bride's own family.

Ccllww: Conveniently, Daniyar Kessikbayev's family pays for all the wedding expenses, just as conveniently, the RM24 million diamond ring was meant to be viewed by Daniyar's mother though ordered in the name of FLOM (First Lady of Malaysia). How convenient.

Nes: Rizal and the whole BN are still clueless of what the rakyat are expecting. Although the claim that all the three wedding receptions are footed by the in-laws is questionable, the crux of the matter is; why spent so luxuriously when the rakyat are feeling the pinch?

Any down-to-earth man will understand this but not them.

JD Lovrenciear: Facts cannot change perception. To change perception, there must be honesty and trust restored.

You can rebut and tear apart the statements from the 'enemies' of the Najib family and supporters, but that will only further entrench the public perception. You get it? Or is this beyond comprehension by the office of the PM?

Kool Guy: If your boss was truly the leader of the people he would have had insisted on a simple function and got the in-laws to donate the money to charity to help the really poor Malaysians.

DPM: Polls not reflection of GST support

Baiyuensheng: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) itself is not a bad thing. It is a double tax on the well-to-do who can afford to buy more things.

In many countries, GST helps the ever challenging task of the government to balance its social responsibilities for the needy and the fiscal budget. And only if the government feels that there are no other alternatives.

In Malaysia, the government has not look at the alternatives. One of the dark holes of our resources is the ‘ketuanan’ policies implemented and instituted that just sucks everything up.

Of course, the other is the leakages but this is also mostly due to the ‘ketuanan Melayu’ policies.

Hearty Malaysian: The people can only accept GST if the government has proven that it’s not wasting the tax collected. There have been too many financial scandals under BN hence there is a trust deficit.

Some ministers simply talk as if the people are stupid and blind. The track record of BN for the last 30 odd years has been very poor. We want a change of government before GST can be considered in tandem with a reduction of income tax.

YSY: Indeed, people are not saying they don't support GST. With the current economy and the salary poor people are drawing, it is not time to implement GST.

The politicians know how to increase their own pay and allowances immediately after the GST implementation, but what about poor Malaysians?

Claim of DAP forming Christian state resurfaces

Anonymous_1421406986: Both coalition parties from the political divide, are desperately attempting to outdo each other by resorting to lies, character assassination and putting doubt and fear in the rakyat.

The rakyat must judge for themselves what the parties have done so far and how often the Yang Berhormats have visited the constituency.

The voters must offer votes to the party that fulfills or acts on its promises and not to someone who keep promising but deliver none, but keep returning with the same promises election after election.

Lamps: Umno is telling the Malays that a vote for PKR is a vote for DAP. MCA is telling the Chinese that a vote for PKR is a vote for PAS.

After 60 years of ruling Malaysia, BN still have to lie to the people for votes. They are good at fear-mongering tactics and playing racial politics. Vote BN out.

Anonymous #20513663: Yawn. Race, religion, race, religion. Say one thing to A, another thing to B, divide and conquer. What’s new? Same tactics for the last 60 years, inherited from the British.

The world needs to know that Umno-BN's 'moderation' is only in English and only for people outside Malaysia. Inside the country, they are the ‘batu api’ (instigators).

Please keep up the good work in exposing this, Malaysiakini . Please extend detailed on-the-ground coverage to East Malaysia too. Many more funny things are going on there.
