YOURSAY ‘But it shall be a miracle if Umnoputeras do indeed heed the message.’

Consider Rompin's message, says Hisham

The Observer: Putting it simply, the 20 percent reduction of votes for BN should have guaranteed its loss in GE14 if what was required was a five percent swing.

The important thing is not that BN won, but that voters on both sides have spoken.

Voters who were disappointed with PAS on the hudud issue have swung over to the BN. However that was not enough to offset an even bigger swing away from BN because of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issues, etc.

Haveagreatday: Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein, it shall be a miracle if Umnoputeras do indeed heed the message of the Rompin voters. GE13 message was loud and clear but you folks chose to hide your heads in the mud.

Jbsuara: The message is clear. Umno-BN bulldozed GST and implemented it against the wishes of the rakyat, and worse, the implementation was so flawed that what was obviously a 'double' taxation is done to the detriment of traders and citizens.

ZhuGeLiang: All these negativities about Najib's leadership have been proven wrong by the voters of Rompin. The facts speak for themselves. BN won the by-election. There is no point arguing about it. Period.

Hang Babeuf: In short, it would seem that as compared with GE13 in 2013 some 6,000 BN voters simply did not vote - either stayed at home in protest or from lack of interest or else did not ‘balik kampung’ from elsewhere to vote. Otherwise no change, status quo.

RCZ: Actually it is not important at all that BN won. It is important that the message of BN not being able to lie and plunder and get away with it anymore, is clearly written on the wall.

And we are not hopeful that the federal government can do anything about it because the very liars and plunderers are currently in the federal government.

Can you tell us why Umno leaders must meet Najib on May 11 on the national issues such as GST, instead of the cabinet?

Is it Umno that is calling the shots and the other BN partners just blindly follow the leader?  What kind of fair governance is this?

Doc: The take-home from this poor election showing for BN in Rompin is that:

1) The Election Commission needs to work harder and come up with new methods of voter fraud to ensure BN get the necessary votes to continue running the country.

2) BN has to splash out more goodies during by-elections. Voters want more goodies.

Hisham: Dr M not a factor for lower majority

Slumdog: Despite the transport allowance paid to those who turned up to vote, the results of the Rompin by-election showed a 20 percentage drop in support for BN.

If this trend continues nationwide in the next GE, BN would be wiped out in the next general election. We can only hope.

The BN voters could not bring themselves to vote for PAS and so they decided to stay away from the ballot box.

However, the poor BN turnout may also be a sign of apathy or a silent protest vote against BN as punishment for the recent scandals surrounding Najib, his government, and the introduction of GST.

Vijay47: Paul Esq., where are you? The nation needs you. It is all left to you to come out with another of your brilliant spins to tell the world that Rompin was actually another resounding win for Umno.

Maybe you can try that the results show that Najib and his policies are much more popular than former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad because despite all that the cunning hypocrite threw at the PM, Umno still came out with a clear majority.

Yeah, but how come the celebration seems so muted? By the way, we are all glad to see that there is a new groupie in town. Maybe we should buy her some chicken rice. On second thoughts, better not.

Fair Play: The more they deny, the greater the impact Dr M's criticism had against Najib and by extension on Umno. Sooner rather than later, the top guns in Umno would have to re-examine their option. Something’s got to give - indeed, which is the lesser evil?

Saphire: If what Defence Minister Hishammuddin said is true, it spells disaster for BN in the next GE. Even without factoring in Mahathir's attack on Najib, the result is appalling.

Mahathir's attack has not reached the folks in Rompin, in view of the fact that it is a rural area. But once it sinks into the folks there, BN will be defeated. People in Permatang Pauh should take note.

Even rural Rompin folks, with less education can see the incompetence of the leadership. It would be a crying shame, if the Permatang folks cannot.
