Zahid probing 'sack 1MDB board' video

Two Umno-linked websites have reported that the party is on the hunt for the maker of a video clip depicting Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's controversial speech at a closed-door party function.

Both mykmu.net and suara.tv reported that Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is leading the investigation.

In the video clip, Muhyiddin claimed that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak ignored his request to sack 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) board members for putting the prime minister in a bad light.

Muhyiddin's speech added weight to speculation that he does not see eye-to-eye with Najib on the government's handling of the 1MDB controversy.

It is believed that the clip was taken at Umno's training centre in Janda Baik, Pahang, last Saturday.

This seven-minute clip was shared on social media by former New Straits Times journalist Firdaus Abdullah yesterday, and this drew attention away from Najib's tabling of the RM260 billion 11th Malaysia Plan in Parliament.

Video maker not suppose to be there

According to mykmu.net , Zahid told party members in their WhatsApp group that the training session was meant for members from the Pagoh, Bentong, Hulu Langat, and Pontian Umno divisions.

The minister said Muhyiddin spoke as the leader of the Pagoh division while the person who made the video was a deputy division leader who should not have been at the training session.

"As the chairperson of the Umno training bureau, I have ordered an investigation to identify the source of the recording and dissemination (of the video).

"I have urged the (Umno) secretariat to take immediate action because this (incident) has soiled the image of Keris 2314, which is aimed at fostering unity at all levels," Zahid is quoted as saying.

Zahid also remarked that Muhyiddin's speech was outside the scope of the Keris 2314 programme, which was established by Muhyiddin himself.

"From the 12th series (of Keris 2314) onwards, the secretariat will not allow mobile phones or recording devices from being brought into the training venue.

"From now on, there will also no longer be any officiation or closing speeches (made by anyone), other than the secretariat.

"Together, let's work to ease the situation," Zahid said.

Meanwhile, suara.tv quoted Umno secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh as stating that contents of the Keris 2314 programme should not be made public because the content is aimed at preparing Umno and BN to win with a two-thirds majority in the next general election.
