Umno’s weak because leader has no credibility

YOURSAY ‘Najib, if you cannot take criticism, you should not be in politics.’

Criticising leader makes Umno weak, warns Najib

Sirach: The leader and party cannot be separated. The tide is turning and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is trying to hold it back with empty rhetoric. There is no more wiggle room, old chap.

The Umno Baru lot continues to believe that the nation is doomed without its leadership. This is a fairytale they have concocted and used to dupe the less informed masses.

Well, they had better wake up to the reality that the majority of the rakyat are fools no longer. And yes, it's social media and the Internet that take the credit (yes, credit) for the long-overdue awakening.

No longer can we be duped by the state-controlled media, which unashamedly publishes the bidding of its masters, and thereby are complicit in the scandals perpetrated at grievous cost to the nation.

Onyourtoes: Najib, does Umno have the same objectives as you? Does Umno also want to incur RM42 billion in debt?  Does Umno want a luxurious executive jet like you?

Does Umno want the goods and services tax (GST) so that government leaders can squander more? So how is it that criticising you has become criticising the party?

Please don't boast about what you did in Perak. The coup in 2009 there was Third World tribalism. First, you changed the state government without the consent of the people.

Second, you gerrymandered the electoral process to the extent that 45 percent of the popular votes in Perak (in the 2013 general election) was enough for BN to command the majority in the state assembly.

Unafraid: The rakyat will only support a leader whom they trust and respect. The PM has lost the trust and respect of a vast majority of the people.

He comes across as not honest and is trying his utmost to get out of the mess he has made with the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.

Clearly, Najib and his team are desperately trying to get cash rich public funds like KWAP (civil servants’ pension fund) or Tabung Haji (pilgrim fund) to bail 1MDB out.

Bluemountains: In any organisation, the leader and the party should be two different entities.

If the leader is weak and corrupt, he must not only be criticised but also be removed to prevent the party from being dragged down by him.

Leaders come and go, but the party remains.

Bringon14: I suppose in the case of Umno, the leader and the party cannot be separated. But this is because both party and the leader of the party have been perceived to be totally corrupt and devoid of any moral compass.

In such a situation, the only recourse is to get rid of both the party and the leader. And it would be a glorious day when that happens.

Ksn: Najib, if you cannot take criticism, you should not be in politics. If not, act on the criticism, evaluate them for substance, validity and take measures to correct what you have been doing wrong. That is the way for leaders to respond.

King Cobra: Actually, criticisms by Umno members are acceptable only if they are meant to strengthen the party and not to topple leaders.

It is disappointing that former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad went against Najib in his criticism of 1MDB. Please let Najib do his work. Give him and his people time and space to carry out their tasks.

Senior Citizen: If you were a good leader, the rakyat would praise you. With so many scandals and with your inconsiderate spending and inability to administer, taxpayers have the right to be angry with you, Mr PM.

Look at the security threats and kidnappings in Sabah. We are very sick of it.

Turvy: The party is not the government nor by nature the champion of the people, race or religion. The party is only a contender in the general elections to govern the country.

When elected, it is for the term of its office, the agent of the people, responsible to them, the Parliament and the laws of the state.

If the party falters in government, breaches any of its duties to the people, Parliament or the laws, its duty is to step aside and be investigated for its wrongdoings. A violation of the duties owed by government cannot be sanctioned or forgiven by the party.

A rallying for the support of a party leader whose conduct has been questioned is not the solution that is needed. The party must vacate the government.

Saphire: Najib, even the great Caliph Umar welcomed criticisms, so who are you compared to him?

One of his famous quotations, “May Allah have mercy on him who sends me my faults as a present" puts you to shame.

A great leader like Caliph Umar did not regard himself to be faultless. If you have done no wrong, no one will ever criticise you. In fact, you are one of the reasons Umno is losing Malay support.

Again, the answer to the increasing criticism against you can be found in the great Caliph's quotation, "The wisest man is he who can account for his actions.”
