PM beats around the bush over ‘twisted’ facts

YOURSAY ‘Najib is the only leader who asks and answers his own questions.’

PM: Mahathir twisting 1MDB facts to attack me

NewMalaysia: There's no one else better at twisting than the grandmaster of flip-flopping, Pirme Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

If Najib claimed that TDM (former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad) has twisted facts on 1MDB to attack him, then he should not waste any time and direct the CEO of 1MDB to face the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) immediately to clarify everything to clear his name.

Instead, Najib only dares to claim that some, and not all, of TDM’s allegations are untrue, thus in so doing he indirectly admitted that some of the allegations are indeed true.

As such, Najib must immediately be suspended from holding any official post until the investigation into 1MDB has been fully carried out. His denial of wrongdoing, without any concrete proof, will only raise more suspicions than answers.

Najib has been caught with his pants down for giving false statements and information before, even in Parliament where he later had to make a correction. Now the burden is on Najib to prove his innocence with facts and evidence. Bare denial will not do.

Mushiro: Najib has to just answer Mahathir's questions head on to avoid being accused of embezzlement. But he is not doing it because he cannot.

Mahathir asked for proof of 1MDB’s US$1 billion repatriated to Singapore, but that is now proven to be a lie by Najib. Najib should open up Deloitte's audit report to show that 1MDB's assets is RM51 billion, but again, he is not doing this.

There is no point if Deloitte accepts the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) land and Sungai Besi airport land at an inflated new price - the people will not agree to this.

Najib's idea of answering only certain parts of the questions and avoiding pertinent points will trap him further.

Saphire: Najib, I must congratulate you for being the only world leader who asks and answers his own questions.

If doing so can clear you from allegations, a thief can do just the same to clear himself of his crime. Mahathir did not twist facts. You are indeed twisting his.

Mahathir did not say that you have lost all RM42 million. He asks you to explain where the remainder of the money has gone, after taking into account of all 1MDB’s purchases.

Simple Malaysian: Mr PM, you have yet to answer TDM's questions, let alone the questions raised by the man on the street. Please answer in a Q&A session in Parliament. That can help silence your critics.

Anonymous #19098644: Najib, it is not that the rakyat oppose the goods and services tax (GST). It is because the rakyat perceive that the tax money is being wasted, siphoned off and misused.

Why should we, the rakyat, pay for corruption, leakages and multi-billion ringgit abuses of 1MDB?

O.M.M.O: What strategies can Najib use to neutralise the attacks from Mahathir? I think the only one choice is: Najib has to produce facts to support himself that he has not committed any wrongdoing involving 1MDB and the Altantuya Shaariibuu case.

Such facts must be solid and be able to survive the test of fire.

R1: The current PM is taking the people for fools. Who is twisting facts here? It seems to me he is just trying to beat around the bush, deflecting the questions asked by TDM.

I will stay as PM for full term, says Najib

Onyourtoes: Look, PM, you were elected by 47 percent of the voters and even that I am not sure they have elected you democratically. Be that as it may, please note that democracy is not restricted to one election every five years.

In between, I am sure the people have every right to monitor your performance and leadership. There are simply too many protracted and unanswered questions right now.

You owe all of us an explanation. As citizens, we are concerned with our future, particularly our savings and income.

CQ Muar: Mr PM, suffice to say we would be sufficiently happy the day you stop imposing further taxes on the poor, cease your extravagant and lavish lifestyle, dispose of the recently acquired government jet, caution your wife and family from flaunting their wealth, resolve the RM42 billion 1MDB debt and stop all forms of corruption.

Rick Teo: Najib, you are wrong. Members of Umno and the rakyat will only support you if you are honest and transparent in the administration of the country's machinery.

But if you are dishonest and corrupt, party members and the rakyat have every right to kick you out.

Clongviews: Najib's way of counter-attacking TDM may not be the right strategy. It is a sign that Najib is desperate as he has everything to lose while TDM has nothing to lose.

All these attacks are little ripples in the ocean to be followed by the tsunami. TDM is keeping his ace card close to his chest.

James TCLow: At last, Tun has met his match. This is round 8 of 12 rounds. While the old lion is panting and tired, the Bugis is injured but still stubborn.

Receiving blows after blows, the Bugis isn't knocked out cold yet. The final round is near but the victor is not certain for sure.
