Bolehland’s IGP, not AG, decides on sedition

YOURSAY 'Even a blind man can vividly see the police are partial...'

Gov't backs IGP's 'cross protest not seditious' claim

From Penang: Why did the police choose to classify the Taman Medan church protest case as "attempted intrusion" without considering the religious sensitivity involved? This is just another example of how the police practice double standards.

Ipohcrite: The ministry said it was the police’s responsibility to classify every complaint received for the purpose of investigation.

Sure, but when the classification is totally out of sync with what a reasonable mind would perceive, what does one make of that?

This, plus the fact that the majority of the protesters were Umno members and that the inspector-general of police’s (IGP) brother was the de facto protest leader.

Even a blind man can vividly see that the police are partial in handling this case and are complicit in absolving the protesters of a more serious offence that they had in fact committed.

Disgusted: So it is the police (that is, the IGP) who decide what is seditious and what is not? Which means we are actually living in a police state. What is the role of the attorney-general (AG) then?

Sometimes when certain reports are made and no action is taken for a long time, especially those involving Umno-BN or its pressure groups, the usual excuse given is that they are awaiting the AG's decision.

It's all hogwash now that the government says the IGP can decide who is to be prosecuted and who is not, and arbitrarily order the arrest and detention of anyone.

Anonymous #97893788: Indeed, the protest was definitely seditious and to say it was not is a load of bull by the IGP.

6th Generation Immigrant: I think the government and the IGP must learn how to be leaders. It does not matter whether it is intrusion or an act of sedition, but the "general perception" of the people is that it is sedition.

Vijay47: Since classification by the police is the basis for further action by the AG, perhaps next time similar demonstrations and threats to peace occur, the police can describe them as "efforts to enhance racial and religious harmony".

The AG could then propose that all the thugs involved be rewarded for their social service and given some fitting title. And of course a flight on 'the plane, the plane'.

Malaysian Born: I think for the most part these characters don't realise that Malaysians today are well read, intelligent and have access to multiple sources of news and opinions.

Effectively, the authorities need to be aware of this so they deal with issues transparently and intelligently such that they avoid being perceived as being biased and inappropriate.

Thus far, this matter has been handled in an atrocious manner and from the lame Home Ministry response, it continues to do so.

It's time to start thinking before making comments and if those in positions of power find it difficult to do so under pressure, they need to be replaced.

The perception that has been allowed to exist paints a terrible picture of imbalance and injustice. Perhaps a Malaysian Airlines type forced retirement and shake-up is required. We need some fresh blood in the system, fast.

Smer See: Such a blatant assault on religion by BN, but it is only called "intrusion". When Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was falsely accused of stopping the ‘azan’, even when there was no evidence, it was called sedition.

Muhibbah: They can even call 'white' as 'black' as they deem fit. But the whole world knows it's 'white', and only morons of the highest order see it as 'black'.

'Sub-subhuman conditions under sub-subcontractors'

Ketuanan Rakyat: Umnoputra contractors take their profit immediately and let the sub and sub-sub-contractors carry out the project with low profits. This is why Umnoputras pretend that nothing has happened when accidents occur at worksites.

Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad should take the blame for doing away with the open tender system for public projects, and introducing negotiated tenders to help the cronies.

Hplooi: There will be no accountability until criminal negligence is brought to bear against those ultimately responsible - the developer and/or the main contractor having legal control over the site.

Anonymous #63753867: And mind you, while these migrant workers are upgrading Malaysian infrastructure, they have to bear higher and full medical charges at government hospitals.

The corrupt Umno government has no conscience at all for them.

Pisasu 7: It's not sub-subcontractors, it's sub-sub-sub-subcontractors. After all, this is Malaysia.
