Model who stripped told to go for mental observation

A former model who went topless in an incident in Jalan Petaling recently was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur today to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, for evaluation of her mental health.

Magistrate Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor ordered Persana Avril Sollunda, 33, to register herself at the hospital today, failing which the court would issue a arrest warrant on her and revoke her bail.

“I’ll telephone the hospital, if there is no registration for admission (by Solunda) today, I’ll issue a warrant of arrest and revoke the bail,” she said, following Sollunda’s request to be given two days to pack her clothes.

Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah made the order for Sollunda to go for mental observation after she dismissed an application by her (Sollunda) lawyer, Muhammad Nor Izzat Nordin, that the case not be heard in an open court as his client was not well since her return from treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital’s Psychiatric Centre.

The magistrate rejected Muhammad Nor Izzat’s request on grounds that there was no report from the Sungai Buloh Hospital to say that the accused was not well to attend hearing and to be tried in an open court.

She also rejected the counsel’s request for his client to be sent for treatment at a hospital in Sabah as her family was there.

Sollunda was in court, clad in long golden-brown cardigan and matching leggings.

Her presence in such an attire drew the public’s attention, prompting the magistrate to tick off her lawyer.

“Please advise the accused to not dress like a rock star, please wear something decent,” said Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah.

The court set July 2 to obtain the medical report on Sollunda.

On April 28, Sollunda was charged with stripping in public when she failed to settle her bill at a chicken rice shop.

A video of her with her shirt and bra removed was recorded and went viral on social media.

Sollunda was charged with committing the lewd act last April 23.

Earlier, during the start of the proceeding of the case at 9.30am, Sollunda was not in court, and according to her lawyer, she was not able to be in  court today because she was not well.

This prompted the court to postpone the case to noon, with an order for her presence as no medical certificate was submitted.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin.
