COMMENT The rule of thumb in Malaysia is that election swings go in cycles of two to three terms. It used to be a swing from tremendous support for BN to a series of lacklustre changes of tides insufficient to tip the balance of power. The term of reference was, and still is a ‘government to opposition’ swing, with BN as government and all else as opposition.
This has been the case since Independence, and despite a 52 percent popular vote to ‘the opposition’ in GE13, Pakatan remains to be just that.
