Ismail, you can’t charge someone for slander

YOURSAY ‘You don't haul up people, you sue them if they have slandered you.’

Ismail Sabri: Haul up those who slander PM on 1MDB

Wg321: Umno Supreme Council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob has reminded the people not to believe information in the social media or from bloggers, but to refer to the authorities for verification.

I have asked 1MDB chief Arul Kanda what are the “units” kept in Singapore but he has been very evasive and refused to answer the question. Just tell me, how to refer to the authorities for verification?

Tony_Cheung: I agree that the government must take stern action against those involved in spreading lies and libel pertaining to 1MDB’s issues. They had given misleading information and blatantly made wild accusations and put the blame on the government.

The government should revoke their license just to teach them a lesson.

Homesick: To all the Umno cyber troopers. You, just like Ismail Sabri, keep saying “charged those who slander the PM and 1MDB”. Charged them with what?

Don't you know you cannot charge someone for slandering and libel. You can only sue them.

Having said that, I am not surprised if someone is charged (I don’t know under what law) or publication licences are revoked under this shameless and incompetent 'authoritarian' government.

Speaking Sense: Indeed, you don't haul up people, you sue them if you think they have slandered you. If Ismail Sabri doesn't know this, then he should not be a minister.

But then, we always knew he was never fit to be one anyway. Ah, I forget, you don't need brains to be an Umno minister.

Well Thats Fantastic: Instead, haul up all MPs who fail to see the need for major national concern when such large sums are being thrown about, especially with little or no benefit to the people at the bottom - us.

Sirach: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be the first one to be charged based on this sycophant's reasoning. Well, what are you waiting for?

Building mosques will not wash 1MDB's sins, PM told

Kingfisher: Very well said, PAS MP Mahfuz Omar. No amount of goodwill with money illegitimately obtained and used for what is claimed for a good purpose can absolve the fundamental wrongdoing.

The truth one attempts for oneself when it is just the sum of what is in one's interest supported by the power one holds is fundamentally amoral.

It is sad state of affairs for any state when those in position of authority do not live off the truth and as a consequence no one cares about the truth.

Negarawan: Reading all these cases of corruption committed by Umno only make one wonder why a country that claims to be Islamic this and Islamic that, turns out to be increasingly involved with massive graft.

The Singapore government, which never claims to be "religious" in its principles and policies, however has high integrity and morals as evident by the success and international acclaim of its able leadership.

Islam in Malaysia is becoming more political and superficial rather than spiritual in its nature. It is up to right-thinking Muslims in the country to correct the deteriorating situation, which is already giving the country a negative image.

The solution is not to make the country more "Islamic", but to revisit the fundamentals of moral values and principles that are respected by all religions and our Asian cultures.

Anticonmen: The mosques already have lots and lots of money given by the government from the rakyat's coffers.

Give some at least to the deprived like the homeless and the marginalised, if you are sincere about helping others and earning of merits.

Do not just fulfill the needs of only your selfish selves at the expense of the rakyat, just because you control the coffers.

Victor Johan: This is akin to the gambling establishments and other dubious business operators making huge sin profits and then contributes some of it to charities and the people’s welfare.

Nippon: Same question to Umno - where is the missing money? That question has been evaded so much that the whole world knows it is missing intentionally.

So, what is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) going to do about it and what kind of progress it has made so far?

I will not be surprised that Fitch Rating is going to downgrade Malaysia rating.

Justine Gow: Ask around - among all the Malaysians you know, whose face has the thickest skin? The answers received are increasingly converging to one particular person.

D'Luffy: Najib is just saying that 1MDB contributes a lot to the Muslims. What is the problem with Mahfuz?
