PBB may defer party polls until after state election

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) may postpone its party election, which is expected to be held this year, said its Youth chief Fadillah Yusof ( photo ).

He said it could be held after the next Sarawak state election. The term of the current 71-seat state legislative assembly expires in June 2016.

“The postponement (party election) is normal to safeguard party interests.

“Prior to this, PBB had ever postponed the party polls when it falls almost at the same time as the general election as we have to prepare for it (election),” he told reporters when asked to comment if the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone would follow Umno’s footsteps to postpone party polls.

Earlier Fadillah, who is also Works Minister, attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for construction of the 1,090km Pan Borneo Sarawak Highway involving the federal government, Sarawak state government and Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU).

Last Friday, the Umno supreme council made the decision to postpone for 18 months its party election which is scheduled to be held next year.
