A "top secret" draft report on the investigations into the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash in Ukraine has been handed over to the Australian government, according to the (SMH).

SMH said the Australian government was asked to give its feedback on the conclusions made in the classified draft report.

It said the Australian government was also asked to comment on the report's assessment on whether the ill-fated plane should have been assigned the flight path it was on and whether the process of releasing passenger information could have been better handled.

The investigation was coordinated by the Dutch Safety Board ,with the involvement of specialists from  Australia, Malaysia, Ukraine, the United States, Russia and the United Kingdom as well.

It is not clear whether the "top secret" report has also been made available to Malaysian authorities.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashed over the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine, where the Ukrainian government was battling Russian-backed rebels, on July 17 last year.

All 298 passengers and crew members on board the aircraft bound for Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam were killed in the crash.

The Dutch Safety Board in its preliminary finding concluded that the aircraft was hit by a "high energy projectile".

SMH reported the Dutch Safety Board as saying in a statement yesterday that it had sent the draft report to "accredited representatives from participating countries".
