Manager charged over naming wife’s firm to supply cattle

The general manager of the Rompin Area Farmers Organisation (PPK) was charged in the Sessions Court in Kuantan today with using his office for gratification.

Suriadi Abdul Jalal, 54, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof.

He was charged with committing the offence by appointing SR Teras Tani Enterprise, a company which belonged to his wife, Rozila Ariffin, to supply 79 heads of cattle for a cow rearing project, worth RM100,000, to the Rompin PPK.

The offence was allegedly committed on July 15, 2011 at the Rompin PPK office.

Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM10,000.

However, Suriadi requested for a lower bail on grounds that he had five family members to support, including three children studying in universities and another, sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) this year.

Habibah then set bail at RM7,000 in one surety and fixed July 28 for mention.
