PAS to be left holding short end of the stick

YOURSAY ‘Come into my parlour, said the spider (Umno) to the fly (PAS).’

Ex-minister predicts Umno-PAS alliance

Anonymous #19098644: This country is ripe for a political realignment.

Those who support a democratic, secular and progressive society versus those who misuse religion and race, and practice corruption and intolerance.

It is time for the non-Umno parties in BN to decide once and for all whether they support a democratic secular nation or they exist solely for the selfish aims of their leaders to be part of the cabal - hungry for money and power at the expense of the rakyat.

6th Generation Immigrant: The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

The prophecy of whether or not PAS will join the BN coalition in GE14 shall be dependent on ‘any first move’ by one of the following - the Group of 18 (G18), party president Abdul Hadi Awang, DAP and Umno - as an act of political defiance to the other.

Similarly, MCA, Gerakan, MIC and many East Malaysian political parties may only be fooled long enough already, and may defy them and join the PKR-DAP coalition.

Saving Malaysia shall be a common war cry, but integrity, fairness, multi-culturalism and multi-racialism shall win the day.

Victor Johan: Sure, PAS under Hadi Awang can repeat the stunt of the 1970s when then-PAS president Asri Muda joined BN and worked with then-PM Abdul Razak Hussein.

With Asri in cahoots with Umno, a PAS splinter, Berjasa, was formed. Berjasa continued its alliance with Umno after PAS left BN in 1977.

It took years before PAS regained Kelantan in 1990, that too when it had teamed up with Umno splinter Semangat 46 under Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li). But Semangat 46 and Ku Li went crawling back to Umno, of course with pecuniary gains.

The majority of voters are now educated and politically aware. They will not be so gullible and fall prey to such tactical ploys of the now very weak Najib Razak's Umno and Hadi Awang's PAS.

Urkidding: BN has to get their counterparts in East Malaysia to agree on this marriage.

Even if their partners agreed, they have a big hurdle to cross in order to get the voters in Sabah and Sarawak to agree. It may lead to BN's loss of support from their fixed deposit states.

Whatsup: Umno to embrace PAS when they are like oil and water was mind-boggling before, but now their leaders are no different except the garb.

Anonymous #12566075: In politics, nothing is impossible.

But realistically, PAS under the new Hadi leadership has yet to be tested in the elections. Umno could easily play out PAS as happened in the past.

Umno leaders are more interested in swigging off financial gain from development and PAS is mainly interested in Islam and the related hudud issue.

If such an alliance materialises, PAS, being much smaller, can easily be played out. History will repeat itself again.

Anonymous_1372130686: Remember, Umno's 88 seat and PAS's 21 seats were won at each other’s expense. Come GE14, how are they going to allocate seats?

At the end of the day, by abandoning Pakatan to join BN, PAS will be the main loser.

Apapunboleh: Indeed, PAS will be most stupid to jump into the crocodile-infested river. We look forward for it to happen.

Leonie: The alliance is plausible because Najib's most important key performance indicator (KPI) is to win the next general election, and PAS is the key to the Malay heartlands, especially after what has occurred at Felda Global Ventures (FGV) and Mara.

But after the next GE, then what? Also, the disaffection this merger would cause to the other BN components will provide an opportunity for DAP and PKR to win them over.

The result - a worsening of the racial and religious divide.

Ksn: Remarriage between a divorced husband and wife is permitted under Islam, right?

If yes, the marriage is on the cards. But do not be too happy because come the next GE both the husband and wife will be wiped out, the wife being PAS fanatics.

OZ: No way, I don't think this will ever happen. The tale is only based on the Umno members' support for the hudud law and does not mean that PAS and Umno will tie the knot.

It’s only that Umno members are comprised of Muslims, where they cannot deny support for the hudud proposal.

One must understand between hudud and political standing before making a baseless conclusion.

LynMy: Don't you just hate it when someone talks a huge game, but hides behind an anonymous veil?

Wira: One group is utterly corrupt and the other group will even work with the devil in order for them to earn points in Heaven. They are perfectly matched for Hell together.
