Six males including a teenager were charged at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today for conspiring to promote terrorism in the country.

Fertiliser traders and siblings Mohd Anwar Azmi, 33, and Mohd Nurkamal Azmi, 30, storekeeper Mohd Hafifi Tarmizi, 25, water trader Izwan Shameer Suzaimi, 25, tyre shop worker Muhammad Luqman Hakim Abdul Aziz, 22, and the teenager aged 17, claimed trial.

They are accused of committing the offence at lot 3917, Kampung Bistari, Sungai Michu, Batu 13, Hulu Langat between 7pm on April 24 and 1am on April 25, this year.

The six are allegedly linked to a group that had planned to attack several government buildings and entertainment centres in the Klang Valley.

On May 20, they were tentatively charged at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court without their plea being taken and further remanded at Sungai Buloh Prison.

Appearing in court today wearing white T-shirts, they nodded to acknowledge the charge read out to them by the interpreter before Justice Kamardin Hashim.     

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin requested for a new mention date as three of the accused, Izwan Shameer, Muhammad Luqman Hakim and the teenager have not yet engaged a lawyer.

Mohd Anwar and Mohd Nurkamal were represented by counsel KL Chee while Mohd Hafifi, by counsel Ridha Abdah Subri.    

The court set Aug 28 for case management and Dec 7 for trial.

The charge under Section 120B(1) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and a fine upon conviction.
