The Home Ministry has banned the publishing and printing of six religious books deemed to contain elements which could adversely affect public order and thinking.

The books include ‘Sakit Apakah Ubatnya? Penelitian Daripada Al-Quran dan Hadis’ published by WJSB Resources, ‘55 Dongeng Teladan Untuk Anak Muslim’ (Penerbit Putra Jaya Surabaya), ‘Misteri Aneh dan Ganjil Bukti Keagungan Allah’ (Fourbass Prints Sdn Bhd) and ‘Misteri Aneh dan Ganjil 2 Membongkar Kewujudan Makhluk Halus’ (Power Press & Design (M) Sdn Bhd).

The others are ‘Muhammad: A Story of God's Messenger and the Revelation that Changed the World’ by HarperCollins Publishers and ‘The Golden Laws: History through the Eyes of The Eternal Buddha’ by Lantern Books, a division of Booklight Inc.

The ministry’s Publication and Quranic Texts Control Division secretary, Hashimah Nik Jaafar said in a statement, the books contained elements which could confuse Muslims in the country and in conflict with syariah as determined by the Quran and Hadis.

She said the ban order on the six books was effective June 9, 2015 and gazetted under Section 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

Under Section 8 (2) of the Act, it is an offence to print, import, produce, reproduce, publish, sell, issue, circulate, offer for sale and distribution, and to possess such banned publications.

The offence carries a jail term of up to three years and a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both.
