Will PM use full force of law against Dr M?

YOURSAY ‘Najib has forgotten that he himself is subject to the law.’

PM threatens full force of law against critics

Hang Babe: This one is priceless... PM Najib Rasa angrily asserts that "it is now clear that false allegations such as these are part of a concerted campaign of political sabotage to topple a democratically elected prime minister."

What he has yet to appreciate, or simply does not get, is that he is accused here, on the 1MDB evidence/emails, of corrupting the entire political system, suborning the democratic electoral process, and perverting the expression of the people's choice: that is, of hijacking the process of choosing "a democratically elected prime minister".

After this latest 1MDB fiasco, the nation might commend to Najib the words, and the same advice, that Oliver Cromwell gave to the Rump Parliament in 1653:

"You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately ... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

Anonymous #12566075: It is good to hear now that Najib wants to use "full force of law" to his critics. The rakyat are waiting to see who - whether Najib or his critics - is telling the truth.

Most of us are eagerly to see if his strongest critics former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad is dealt with the "full force of the law".

Sirach: The full force of the law should be applied without regard to rank or position. Just as Najib warns "those who mount these attacks" to be prepared to face the music, so should he, if the reports are accurate. The knife cuts both ways.

Negarawan: Indeed, Najib has forgotten that he himself is subject to the law, or does he think that the "law" is on his side?

SusahKes: Full force of law? Seems to me the man still does not get it. Just peruse the many negative comments on his Facebook page.

The damage is already done, and the perception (a favourite word among BN politicians) has already taken hold in the minds of the people.

Fair Play: Who knows? Taking any action against Dr M might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Besides he, being the astute politician that he is, would unleash his counter broadside just at the right time for the ultimate checkmate. During his 22 plus years as PM, Dr M was known to fight battles to win, not to lose or draw.

Jesse: Najib, please use the full force of the law to salvage your tarnished reputation but not the police. They are there to enforce, not protect you.

If you use them to enforce civil law rather than criminal, then you will be behaving like a dictator. So don't try to emulate Zimbabwe, a failed state, by all criteria and ruled by a most corrupt president.

Cocomomo: It looks like he is not denying the money went into his bank accounts, just that he did not use for personal gain. Use it to fund the election or buy votes? Or pass it on to someone else?

Anonymous_1405071260: Dear PM, if Wall Street Journal ( WSJ ) got it wrong, sue them in the US courts and demand a retraction plus apology.

The simplest way is to prove your innocence. There is no point threatening the local media or local critics. The report came from WSJ.

Five Speed: Najib can sue the WSJ - but he wouldn't have a chance to win simply because of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

In a case that involved a newspaper article that said unflattering things about a public figure, a politician, the US court pointed to "a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open."

It acknowledged that in public discussions, especially about public figures like politicians, mistakes can be made. If those mistakes are "honestly made," the court said, they should be protected from defamation actions.

The court made a rule that public officials could sue for statements made about their public conduct only if the statements were made with "actual malice”.

Which is why Singapore chose to sue WSJ in Singaporean courts. They have no chance of winning in a US court. Plus they can spin it to say that Najib is against press freedom.

Bluemountains: Bank Negara must come out quickly to set the record straight and put an end to the confusion. Foreign investors will flee and the ringgit will plunge further.

Bank Negara had previously announced that it had handed the matter to law enforcement agencies. Why is it taking so long to find an answer?

PCG: Najib said: “It is now clear that false allegations such as these are part of a concerted campaign of political sabotage to topple a democratically elected prime minister.”

Democratically elected means majority of the people chose you. The last time I checked, only 47 percent of the electorate voted for you. The reason you're PM is because of your gerrymandering.

Odin Tajué: The guilty shout and scream and foam at the mouth and make threats of impending doom for their targets.

The innocent in your position would say little but take the Sarawak Report and WSJ - and maybe Mahathir as well - to court.

Now, if you are innocent, shut up and do what the innocent in your position would.
