‘Awie’s wife didn’t have time to sell branded items’

The wife of rock singer Awie, Rozana Misbun, told the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur yesterday that she did not have time to sell all the branded bags and shoes she owned to pay back Awie.

Rozana said this was after Awie, whose real name is Azhar Othman, 47, had taken all these items after the beating incident on June 2, last year.

“All the things that he (Awie) claimed I had including gifts he gave me were with him, so I was not able to sell even one,” she said during the cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Goh Ai Rene.

Rozana, 37, said before that, she had agreed with Awie to sell all the branded items to repay him his money within two weeks from that date.

She said Awie’s claims that she had sold these items and not given the money to him were not true.

Rozana admitted that she had bought only one bag after her marriage to Awie and the rest were bought before they were married.

She denied using the money in the Amanah Saham Berhad (ASB) account to buy the bags as the money was in the form of a loan of RM250,000 and could only be withdrawn in 2016.

She said Awie’s money which was kept in her bank account was not withdrawn for personal use but was for family expenses and to pay the monthly rental of Awie’s club in Ipoh, Perak.

To a question from the DPP on a handphone which was used to take photographs of her injuries caused by being beaten, Rozana, who had two handphones, said she did not use her Iphone 4 as it had been broken by Awie the day before she was beaten.

“Awie did that because I showed him a photograph of him with another woman and in anger, Awie threw the phone to the wall,” she said.

Earlier, Rozana told the court that the camera in her Blackberry phone was damaged and she had taken photographs of her injuries using a Samsung handphone belonging to her maid and sent them to the Blackberry phone through WhatsApp.

On July 4, last year, Awie pleaded not guilty to the charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Rozana in a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang, at 1.30pm on June 2, last year.

Awie is charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years jail and a fine, if found guilty.

The hearing before Magistrate Ayuni Izzati Sulaiman continues on July 13.

Awie was represented by counsel Hazman Harun.
