Perlis Syariah judge’s wife dies of leptospirosis

The wife of Perlis Syariah Court of Appeal Judge Ahmad Jusoh passed away at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) in Kangar yesterday, due to leptospirosis.

Syarifah Salmah Syed Abdullah, 68, is believed to be the first fatality of the disease in Perlis.

Ahmad, 72, said his wife passed away at 4.30pm after being warded at HTF for six days.

“The doctor who examined her suspected at first that she had dengue fever but later confirmed that it was leptospirosis,” he said when met this morning.

Syarifah Salmah’s remains were brought home to Taman Sena Indah yesterday.

Perlis mufti Associate Prof Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin led prayers at Masjid Negeri Arau before the funeral at the Islam Masjid Lama Arau cemetery at 9.30am today.

Among dignitaries who paid their last respects were Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Perempuan Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abd Rashid.

Also present were Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

The deceased shared four children and 11 grandchildren with Ahmad.
