Indonesia is expected to face moderate El Nino weather conditions from July to November, affecting provinces from Sumatra to eastern Indonesia, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said today.
The El Nino, or a warming of sea-surface temperatures in the Pacific, can lead to scorching weather across Asia and east Africa but heavy rains and floods in South America.
El Nino weather conditions could strengthen in November, BNPB spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told reporters, adding that the onset of the rainy season would not likely take place until December, compared to October in regular weather years.
