You need non-Malays too, MIC tells Negri MB

MIC Youth has hit back at the Negri Sembilan menteri besar's remark today that Umno should leave its BN component parties out in the cold in the next general election, calling it "ridiculous".

"The Negri MB’s 'let BN partners die' comment is ridiculous and unwarranted," retorted MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh in a statement.

He was responding to Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan at the Umno Seremban annual general meeting today calling for all Malay-majority seats in the state to be given to Umno .

"If the others want to die ( mampus ), then let it be.

"I'm suggesting to (BN chief Najib Razak) in the 14th general election, don't follow their demands," said Mohamad Hasan in his fiery opening speech.

Sivarraajh admitted Negri Sembilan's Malay-majority Jeram Padang seat, the only seat won by MIC, was through the support of Malay voters.

But he warned that the same applied to Umno in Malay minority seats.

'Umno will lose non-Malay support'

"The same way Indians and Chinese will vote for Malays candidates in other constituencies. Hasan is indeed shortsighted if he does not realise it.

"Because of minority votes BN managed to win about 30 parliamentary seas in the west coast.

"So please, think first before you open your mouth and don’t damage BN's chances in many other areas, by taking all Malays-majority seats in Negri Sembilan," said the MIC Youth chief.

He said while Hasan could go it alone in his "tiny Negri Sembilan", the same approach would not work in states with sizeable non-Malay voters.

"What about the minorities in this Malay majority seats? If you don’t include them in the BN family, their votes will to the opposition parties," he added.

If Umno decides to heed Hasan's call, said Sivarraajh , "it will not get any Indian or Chinese votes anywhere in Malaysia and that includes Kadazan, Muruts and Ibans and Dayaks, Orang Asli and others".
