Four new exec directors in DBKL’s restructuring

The restructuring of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) sees the creation of four new executive director posts as a step towards the organisation's structural transformation this year.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the post of executive director has been upgraded from deputy director-general previously.

“The last time DBKL had its restructuring was on July 1, 2011,” he told a media conference at the Federal Territories Ministry and DBKL Aidilfitri open house in Kuala Lumpur today.

Following the restructuring, two new faces - Abdul Samad Lope Pihie was appointed as executive director (management) and Tan Keng Chok as project implementation and maintenance executive director.

Two other executive director posts are to be helmed by Normah Malik, who will hold the socio-economic development portfolio and Mohd Najib Mohd the planning portfolio.

Prior to this, Normah held the post of socio-economic development deputy director-general and Mohd Najib as management deputy director-general.

Tengku Adnan said through the DBKL organisational restructuring, it would see changes that were more efficient and responsive by DBKL, in line with the vision to make Kuala Lumpur a world class city by 2020.

He also announced the appointment of Afandi Zahari as the new chairperson for the Kampung Baru Development Corporation to replace Astaman Abdul Aziz effective from today.

The restructuring also involved the rebranding of several departments with the grade upgrading of several directors in DBKL departments.

These departments included the area service department (new department); physical and urban development department; project implementation and building maintenance department; housing management and community development department; recreational and landscape development department; infrastructure planning department; electrical and mechanical engineering department; corporate planning department; culture arts department; tourism and arts and internal audit department.

Tengku Adnan said recruitment of new DBKL staff was in line with the restructuring for phase two involving the support group I and II.

He said the restructuring was still ongoing and expected to be submitted to the Public Services Department for approval at the end of next month.

“We expect this strategy will increase the revenue of DBKL and a higher bonus will be given to the staff,” he said.

He said DBKL gave one month’s bonus to the staff last year.
