The ringgit was traded weaker against the US dollar in the early session today due to renewed interest for the greenback as declining commodity prices hurt investors confidence further.

At 9.02am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.8720/8750 against the greenback, from 3.8520/550 at 5pm yesterday.

A trader said market players were buying back the dollar after their confidence in the US economy was restored following the recent release of better US consumer spending in June, which advanced at its slowest pace in four months.

The ringgit traded lower against other major currencies.

It depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.7999/8039 from 2.7982/7014 yesterday and fell against the yen to 3.1143/1170 from 3.1070/1099 previously.

The ringgit eased against the pound sterling to 6.0264/0322 from 6.0018/0084 yesterday and declined against the euro to 4.2100/2141 from 4.2256/2297 previously.
