Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali is worried that a clash between Bersih and the red shirted anti-Bersih group will threaten national security.
"The police have not given permission for Bersih 4 and then there is this red shirt anti-Bersih group. This could threaten national security and get out of hand," he said during a press conference at the Perkasa headquarters today.
As such, he hoped Bersih could ensure security during this weekend's demonstration.
"Perkasa urges the Bersih organisers, if they want to push ahead with the rally, to really make sure its safe and does not endanger public property.
"I'm afraid there will be people taking advantage (of the situation). Those who will suffer are the people and the country. The organisers must take full responsibility," he said.
The red shirts, led by an Umno head, have vowed to march and face off with Bersih protesters this week-end.
Ibrahim also reiterated that Perkasa members were not barred from participating in the Bersih rally.
"But if it is going to be dangerous, it is better if they don't join. I don't encourage it," he said.
Street protests not the only way
The self-proclaimed 'Demo King' added that these days, one needn't take to the streets to make one's voice heard.
"I used to demonstrate because back then there was no Internet and our voice did not reach the government and the people didn't know what we were fighting for.
"But now if you want to voice out, even in the toilet you can do so through WhatsApp," he quipped.
Ibrahim said he hoped that the people, students particularly, would be wiser and more mature in how they express themselves and not just focus on street protests.
