Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim is hoping Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
"I hope Tun M (Mahathir) will visit Central Market on Sunday.
"A walkabout with the rakyat will do the country much good in this difficult time," he posted on Facebook.
Starting tomorrow, electoral watchdog Bersih would hold a 34-hour rally to among others press for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation.
Central Market is one of the designated gathering points for the rally, dubbed Bersih 4.
Mahathir would be in Pasir Gudang, Johor, tomorrow afternoon where he is slated to speak at an event called Bicara Negarawan.
The theme for the event is 'Malaysia hari ini, ke mana kita? (Malaysia today, where are we headed?)'
The former premier is expected to fire more salvos at Najib, whom he has repeatedly urged to step down.
Apart from suggesting a vote of no-confidence against the prime minister, Mahathir also recently remarked that a public protest should be the last resort to remove Najib.
Mahathir's comments on street protests came as a surprise as during his 22-year-rule, he had little tolerance for dissent, and always held the view that it is an act contrary to democracy.
During the reformasi era of 1998-99, the Mahathir administration came down hard on supporters of his axed former deputy Anwar Ibrahim who took to the streets.
