Uniform ban for Unit Amal members for Bersih 4

PAS has banned members of its voluntary movement - Unit Amal - from wearing their uniforms or anything bearing the unit's insignia if they are joining the Bersih 4 rally.

"This is to avoid sabotage and provocation from those who do not support the Bersih 4 rally.

"We also warn that legal action will be taken against anyone who is not a member of the Unit Amal found wearing its insignia at the rally," said the PAS Unit Amal Department director Mohd Nazree Mohd Aris.

PAS is not officially joining the Bersih rally but has not barred its members from participating.

PAS splinter group Gerakan Harapan Baru and its Unit Amal equivalent, Unit Arif will, however, be present.

PAS Unit Amal is well known for its well-oiled machinery in providing security during street rallies and protests while keeping participants in order and managing crowd movements.

The 34-hour Bersih mega-rally begins simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu at 2pm tomorrow.

The rally is to demand four things: 1. Clean elections; 2. Clean governance; 3. Saving the economy; and 4. Preserving the right to dissent.
