The Pahang Umno liaison committee pledges its strong support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and will not allow him to face the present conflicts and slanders alone.

Its chairman Adnan Yaakob, who is also Pahang Menteri Besar, said Najib is Umno president because he was picked by members of the party and, as such, all members must defend him regardless of the challenges involved.

"The state Umno hopes the prime minister will persevere in facing the challenges. We will not let him stand alone when he is being vilified because we were the ones who picked him to be Umno president," he said.

Adnan ( photo ) said this in his speech during the opening of the Jerantut Umno division delegates meeting today by Najib. Division chief Ahmad Nazlan Idris was also present.

At the same time, he said all Youth, Wanita and Puteri movements of the party must also unite to strengthen the party and to initiate efforts to win over the people.

"It has often been said that three million Umno members alone are not enough to win the general election.

"On the contrary, we must approach the people and win their hearts regardless whether they are single mothers or the poor groups.

"We must show them that Umno and Barisan Nasional genuinely serve the people to win their support, and in doing so, the work during the general election will become easier," he said.

As such, he said the state Umno machinery would start to go down to the field in September to brief the people on current issues and to strive to win them over.
