Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has warned that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's bid to bring down Prime Minister Najib Abul Razak would also mean the downfall of the government.
He said this in reference to Mahathir's call for BN MPs to join forces with the opposition for a vote of no-confidence against Najib.
"That is why in other countries when a vote of no-confidence is passed against any prime minister, the newspapers report about the government falling, not about the prime minister falling.
"The present government is the government of Najib Razak. When he falls then his government falls. And that is what DAP, PAS and PKR want.
"And it appears like this is also what Mahathir wants. The collapse of the Najib Razak government," he said in a blog posting today.
Salleh ( photo ) also questioned Mahathir's claim that Najib had bought over BN MPs but now expects them to turn on the prime minister.
"So what message is Dr Mahathir sending to Malaysians? On the one hand he says the prime minister has compromised the BN MPs.
"On the other hand he says a vote of no-confidence should be passed against the prime minister," said Salleh.
Salleh said Mahathir will end up joining hands with the opposition and assuming if all opposition MPs support the vote, he will stil need 30 more or so BN MPs to achieve a simple majority of 112 MPs.
Mahathir had twice visited the Bersih 4 rally over the weekend which demanded for governmental reforms and Najib's resignation.
Today, the elder statesman also implored BN MPs to help oust the prime minister.
