Top debater is shining hope for new M’sia

YOURSAY ‘There's only one 'right' in Malaysia, and that is Umno’s right.’

Asia’s top debater flays DPM’s daughter

Anonymous_1421806811: I can see why Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is one of the top Asian debaters, and if the deputy prime minister’s (DPM) daughter Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid was to engage him in a debate, she would be flayed.

One uses logic and reason to push his points through; the other by using the ‘stupid’ word to describe Bersih protesters, which shows she is emotionally distressed and mentally challenged.

JD Lovrenciear: Dear UIA (International Islamic University) law student and top debater Syed Saddiq, well done young man.

It is individuals like you who can be the shining leaders of hope for a new Malaysia.

6th Generation Immigrant: Whoever said we do not have today, a young Malay speaking good English intelligently and with leadership qualities can now be proven wrong.

He is not even speaking on behalf of the Umno or on bumiputera or Malay platforms. He speaks as a true Malaysian.

This is what the majority of Malaysians are sore about - the failure of Umno to allow intellectuality to bloom amongst the Malays.

Umno only chooses, accepts and prefers the many people like this daughter of the DPM - a sycophant understudy.

KO: No bull, point-by-point rebuttal, clear, clean and crisp. No wishy-washy emotional poo. Well done, young man.

Now to mould and guide another one million similar to you, and the Malay race will shine like a diamond.

Appum: Handsome, articulate, intelligent, poetic young man. Hmmm, if only I had a daughter. Ha-ha.

Seriously though, Syed Saddiq, you do have a future here. You must have a future here and you must stay on to ensure that your generation has the kind of freedom you envisage for yourself and your generation.

Bravo, young man. Stick to your principles and help Malaysia recuperate.

WoTB: There's only one 'right' in Malaysia, and that is Umno’s right. So we ordinary Malaysians must fight hard to get back Malaysians’ right.

Either Umno changes for the better (highly unlikely) or we must kick it out.

Ipoh Pp: Indeed, it’s a one-way traffic in the country. If you’re critical of the government, action is taken against you.

Why is there no answer as to how, who, why and whom deposited the RM2.6 billion into the PM’s personal account?

If you’re not prepared to answer, you have no business leading the country as you’re accountable to all the rakyat.

SMC77: The ‘freedom of speech’ in this country is restricted to the few privileged BN politicians.

If you do not belong to this group, you will be locked up, beaten and threatened by the authorities if you dare to exercise your right of expressing your view.

It is a failed state with totally dysfunctional law enforcement agencies.

Prudent: Free speech or freedom of speech carries responsibility and obligation for self-discipline.

For example, free speech does not include the freedom of slander or of making damaging accusations without proof or based on the slimiest of evidence or perception.

Sometimes even if the slander carries some truth, one needs to consider whether uttering it will do more harm than good to the person at the receiving end.

Therefore, free speech should be only for the mature to exercise. Failing this, there should be just and adequate recourse available to the person victimised by the speech.

In Malaysia, the problem is really that there is no such just recourse. The reaction by the victim is usually repressed, the victim usually being the weaker party in the altercation.

Dr Suresh Kumar: For the opposition supporters, free speech means attacking the government, whacking PAS for what they believe in, vilifying Hindraf, supporting the Kajang 'failure' by removing a democratically-elected assemblyperson, supporting the demolishing of century-old Indian villages, supporting Anwar Ibrahim's undemocratic act of buying over tainted Umno frogs to take over the government (Sept 16 comical act), supporting them when the Pakatan state governments rape the remaining green lungs and destroy hills in the name of development.

However, the moment you criticise their leaders, your right to free speech ends then and there and you will be subjected to a barrage of intense hostility. These people ought to spend a few years in western societies to learn the meaning of free speech.

I have been noticing their hypocrisy since the last two general elections, not an ounce of change in their attitude and in their way of thinking, yet they scream about 'change'. These immature people need a change of brain first.

Real Truth: As the saying goes, ‘I will fight for your right to disagree with me’. In Malaysia we seldom have this noble notion, here might is right.

If you don’t believe me, ask our inspector-general of police (IGP) and home minister.

TheAnonymous: Well said, Syed Saddiq. Now the difficult part is making them understand. But don't hold your breath.

Pahatian: Syed Saddiq, your piece is simple yet so profound. No wonder you were voted Asia’s best debater for 2015.

From now on, you better take good care of yourself. Your every word will be under scrutiny and your every move under surveillance.

A piece of advice - distance yourself from liars and the corrupted ones.
