All public and private universities and institutions of higher learning (IPT) can made their own decision to postpone academic and non academic activities or to close their premises due to the haze.

Higher Education Minister Idris Jusoh said they were asked to monitor the seriousness of the haze in their localities.

“IPT are asked to provide the relevant internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines as reference to their students and staff,” he said in a statement in Putrajaya today.

According to Idris, the ministry took note of the current haze situation that could bring about impact to the health of the IPT students and staff.

The ministry was also monitoring the situation through various mechanisms, including the Air Pollutant Index (API) parameter from time to time, he said.
