DAP MP, rep nabbed for trying to stop eviction

Seremban MP Anthony Lok and Temiang assemblyperson Ng Chin Tsai were arrested this morning for trying to stop the eviction of residents at Kampung Ulu Temiang in Negri Sembilan.

Loke posted a picture of him and several residents detained in a police truck at about 9.30am this morning.

He was released at 8pm, after being detained for almost 12 hours.

"Was released from IPD Seremban at 8pm after a 12-hour detention. Went straight to Kg Ulu Temiang to meet up with the affected victims.

"There are a few families who really have no alternative place to stay tonight. We are arranging for them to be placed at a budget hotel for the next few days as a short-term measure," Loke said.

Earlier, residents held a sit in as early as 8 this morning with police trucks on standby, ahead of the planned eviction and the demolition pf their houses

According to Oriental Daily News , about 15 protesters were arrested for obstructing police carry their duty.

Police set up barricades to stop outsiders coming to the village to help the protesters.

More than 100 houses were demolished in the operation.

Seremban district police chief ACP Muhammad Zaki Harun confirmed that police arrested 15 people this morning, including two DAP elected representatives.

They were arrested at about 8.30am today under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant from performing his or her duty, Muhammad Zaki said.

He said four of those arrested are Kampung Ulu Temiang residents while nine others are non-residents.

They were also arrested for "uttering foul language against police", Muhammad Zaki said.

Statements are being taken from those arrested and eye witnesses, he said.

"The investigations are ongoing," Muhammad Zaki added.

Kampung Ulu Temiang residents are reportedly seeking a compensation of RM12,000 per house from a private developer who purchased the land four years ago.

The residents have reportedly lived in the village for 40 years.

On Sept 30, about 100 residents held a four-kilometre protest march to seek the intervention of the Negri Sembilan palace.

According to DAP mouthpiece Roketkini , the residents were also living in darkeness after Tenaga Nasional Bhd ceased electricity supply, following the dispute.
