COMMENT The term ‘Malay dominance’ was inserted into the realm of political discussion in Malaysia on Aug 30, 1986 when Abdullah Ahmad, then MP for Kok Lanas, made a speech at the Institute of Foreign Affairs in Singapore.

In it he said that just as politics in Singapore enthroned the principle of Chinese dominance, so Malay dominance was the unalterable reality north of the Causeway.
