Really, Dr M railing against unfair detention?

YOURSAY | 'Didn’t Mahathir sack an entire generation of the best judicial brains?'

'Shame!' - Dr M joins with Ku Li, big guns to slam Sosma arrests

Oh Ya?: They are a whole bunch of hypocrites. It is definitely not right for the government to abuse its powers, but why care for these two (1MDB critic Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer Matthias Chang) only?

What about the other oppositionists, dissidents and activists who had been, and still are, persecuted under these draconian laws? What about those who had been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's reign?

Wasn't Mahathir the one who sacked an entire generation of the best judicial brains who were about to rule against him? What wrongs had they committed other than digging into Umno’s dirt and scandals?

Isn't it Mahathir who has been the most vociferous in championing not only for the retention of the Sedition Act, but reviving the ISA and making them more draconian so that the ruling elite could use them to crack down whenever they are under siege?

And how could Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, former Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and former MCA presidents Ong Tee Keat act so upright when they had been part of the abuse process?

Over50abu: I am happy to see that Mahathir is getting a taste of his own medicine.

And if Najib steps down, is Dr M going to put everything back to how it was before, or would he dismantle it and do away with all these draconian laws?

Is he going to arrest all the corrupt Umno leaders, or is he merely doing all this for his own selfish benefit and legacy?

Eyespye: You can't talk about reality to the delusional. You can't shame the thick-skinned. You can't satisfy the greedy. You can't convince a criminal to own up, when the powers behind the law are on their side.

You can't use the courts, because you are sure of the outcome. You can't use a no-confidence vote, because the speaker will block it. You can't vote down the budget because enough East Malaysian and Semenanjung cronies support it.

You can't rely on investigators because they have been shut up. You can't rely on the police, because they are waiting for orders from the Attorney-General's Chambers. The AG's Chambers isn't going to prosecute, so you might as well not investigate.

You can't tell people what's wrong because they control the radio, newspaper and TV. You can't tell people outside the country, because they won't let you fly out. You can't protest anymore, because the courts now say rallies are illegal.

It doesn't mean much to be Malaysian, these days.

Kingfisher: The press statement by these former senior leaders has come out quite strongly that Najib is a threat to the nation with its implicit indication that while he is not defending his innocence according to law and practice against allegations of having committed crimes against the nation, he is instead persecuting those who accuse him of crimes.

This is a pointed reference to abuses of official power and to a form of authoritarian and absolutist decline if not decay in governance unnecessary for a vibrant country like Malaysia.

Next to the recent royal decree about the improprieties of the government led by Najib, this statement by senior leaders is a sad reminder as to how and why a nation with so much potential is being disadvantaged nationally and internationally by the actions of a select few.

Unfortunately for Malaysia this 1MDB scandal engulfing the PM and the nation has tied tin cans around the legs of not only the PM but it appears the whole nation. Need to tread softy and surely.

Progressive: Unfortunately and tragically, Najib has lost the plot and now we have to rely on past thieves, racists and opportunists to save our beloved nation.

It looks like we have no choice but to align ourselves with Mahathir and company, who is the real cause for all that ails our nation today.

Clever Voter: Although these seniors are no angels, they do make a point. Malaysia moral compass is now at the point of no return.

Najib is helping himself with the goodies simply because these seniors failed to ensure adequate institutional governance and integrity of public agencies to safeguard national wealth. It’s never too late.

Destroy the patronage system and return the ill-gotten wealth.

Trueglitter: The march of gallant long knives, comprising Mahathir, Razaleigh and prominent past and current politicians is apparently a most welcome development, given the protracted cum unprecedented national humiliation and loss of direction the nation and its people are being unjustly subjected to, due to alleged abuse of power and blatant corruption involving PM Najib and the 1MDB scandal, was well as the purported ‘donation’ of RM2.6 billion in Najib's personal accounts.

It is opportune the cries of a dismayed and distraught nation be heeded in order for its people to nurture new hopes with promise of a brighter tomorrow, when generations to come will not again be traumatised by the indignities of a tyrannical PM and his lowly cohorts.

Needless to reiterate, as the trampling of those gallant men grows nearer, the adoration and cheers from the trodden rakyat are getting louder and louder, confident in the belief that political enemies should bury their hatchets to successfully overcome their common enemy.

Rm2.6billion Duit Haram: We can see Najib is getting more and more desperate. Reporting about 1MDB's wrongs is now tantamount to sabotaging the banking system.

My God. Najib, if you have done no wrongs, please come out to explain all questions put to you. Come out like a hero and prove all allegations wrong.

Unafraid: We need righteous men from the government to stand up now and be counted. We need brave patriots who will put national interest above self, people of integrity. Maybe they are few and far between now within the rank and file of the government.

Most, if not all, are more concerned about their rice bowl than what's right and good. That's how pathetic those in government have degenerated into.

But we still hope that somewhere, courage and integrity will rise up.

Malayamuda: Mahathir, we need a new government, not a new prime minister.
