Work with Dr M and Co to save M'sia, Pakatan Harapan told

Pakatan Harapan should extend conditional cooperation with Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his team to save the nation from the current political and economic turmoil, Amanah Youth national chief Sany Hamzam said today.

"The terms of this cooperation should be within the scope of saving the country, with the strong condition that Mahathir will not repeat the political tyranny that was his legacy when he ruled the country for 22 years previously," Sany said in a statement.

He said maturity in politics, without emotional interference, must be used to stop the people's suffering.

"A discussion on this (cooperation) should start, since the people cannot afford to shoulder burden after burden under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration.

"Even though it might be difficult, we also believe that through a consultative medium, there is no problem or conflict that cannot be solved," Sany added.

The Amanah leader pointed out that Mahathir's teaming up with other Umno veterans was a "terminal signal" on the situation of the country.

"Even more interesting is that Mahathir is willing to put aside his old feud with Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to step forward together to pressure the current prime minister's administration," Sany said.

Yesterday, Mahathir and Tengku Razaleigh, along with several other BN veterans, released a joint statement condemning the use of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act against 1MDB critic Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer Matthias Chang.

The other veterans are Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, former Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid and former MCA presidents Ong Tee Keat and Dr Ling Liong Sik.
