Najib knows what MCA wants and dangles the carrot

YOURSAY | ‘You scratch my back, I scratch yours aka ‘You help me, I help you.’ Familiar?’

Want more gov’t posts? Then work harder, PM tells MCA

Sali Tambap: “You want more seats in the government, you increase your support for BN,” said PM Najib Razak to MCA.

I have to laugh at that. Who is the government? While it is true that it is BN for now, there is no guarantee that it will still be them come next election.

The Chinese therefore have to put their support wisely as they are also a part of the process that determines the next government. They should place their support on a government that would look after their best interest.

Would that be the present PM? I think they doubt that. The Chinese are pragmatic people and business-minded, and as far as the economy is concerned now, it is perhaps the worst patches that Malaysia has gone through.

WDA: The PM seems to know what motivates the MCA leadership to work harder - cabinet posts. This is insulting, but at the same time this may be true.

Odysseus: Now, it's getting clearer what the objectives of the MCA leaders are. It’s just about getting government positions.

Thanks to Najib for confirming it. And, also for confirming that without a position you cannot contribute to the society, particularly for the Chinese minority. This is what you get when you put in a racist government.

Vent: You scratch my back I scratch yours aka "You help me I help you." Familiar?

CQ Muar: You see how Najib's mastery of words and eloquence can work; by enticing those from MCA into rendering him the much needed support at this juncture when he needed them most?

Promotions, upgrades, seats, Datuk and Tan Sri titles to be conferred and lots of untendered contracts to be exchanged for more votes from the Chinese.

Casey: So what if there's zero MCA representation in the cabinet? As far as the nation is concerned, the MCA cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries (like those of Umno's) are not worth their salt.

Besides, being subservient to their political master, what can these MCA's ‘Ah Qs’ contribute towards nation building other than adding to the depletion of the national coffer by receiving 'gaji buta'?

Pasu: Alas, it's all hot air. Najib is asking MCA to do the impossible. As it stands, I'm not certain on what basis Chinese Malaysians will support MCA.

Once upon a time, they supported MCA based on the myth that come what may, the Chinese must have a voice in the government. But this myth is already shattered.

The Chinese Malaysians no longer accept the MCA's lies. Najib is asking MCA to fight a modern war with bare hands. The day will come when our Malay brethren too will overcome the myth that only Umno can look after them.

Jbsuara: The reality is MCA is not even perceived to be a partner in BN. This party is a mere lapdog to Umno's hegemony.

The PM's rhetoric is empty of substance. He and his ministers have repeatedly and blatantly humiliate MCA and the Chinese Malaysians and other minority communities.

He ignored the contribution of the other races in nation building and condoned the 'red shirt' demonstration in Petaling Street. The citizens do not trust this hypocrite PM.

By the way, MCA do not represent the Chinese in Malaysia. The destiny of the Chinese community is tied and deeply rooted in the multiracial destiny of all Malaysians and their aspiration is represented by those political parties who struggle for this aspiration.

The racist approach of Umno, supported by its lapdog MCA, is antagonistic to this aspiration.

Anonymous_1372741039: Malaysians have heard all these rhetoric for the past 58 years. Let's try something new.

Today, Malaysians are more divided than we have ever been. Has the PM ever wondered why?

Polarisation is on the march because of irresponsible utterances by leaders and irresponsible NGOs aligned to Umno. How then can it be corrected, Mr PM?

MCA is living in the past and it can no longer be salvaged. Indeed, they have lost their voice as far as the Chinese community is concerned.

Not Smart: Mr PM, MCA is not the same standard in terms of their maturity and thinking as that of your party. Maybe you can give this sort of sermon to your members because their memory is very short.

On one hand, you and your team attack the Chinese community. On the other, you ask them to work hard to garner more support. Isn't this stupid?

Eyespye: Doesn't he have East Malaysia in his pockets? So for what, really, does Najib need the MCA and MIC?

This is Najib's version of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's 'Look East' policy - look to East Malaysia. So really, he can afford to attend the MCA AGM and 'beard the lion' in his den, or should I say 'shear the sheep'?

Clearwater: I tend to view MCA not so much as a silent partner in BN but as a silenced partner. The MCA leaders are silenced by a powerful combination of big stick or little carrots.

No prizes guessing what they choose for themselves most of the time.
