Muhyiddin can speak his mind, but the knives are out

YOURSAY | ‘Put your proposed speech on the net. It’s more effective that way.’

Nobody can silence me, says Muhyiddin

Clever Voter: Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin can make as much noise as he wants. But Umno president Najib Abdul Razak is way ahead of him.

Tactically weaker, ex-DPM Muhyiddin has to dig deeper into his pockets. He has to ask himself whether the effort is worth the money spent to gain support.

It's not likely Najib will fall. The party’s support for him is assured for a good five years.

Ong Seng Swee: Hopefully, Mr Deputy President, they don't stop you from speaking on the last day of the Umno annual general meeting (AGM). If they successfully do that, you are finished.

Paul Warren: Hey, has someone forgotten to tell him that his lips are already sealed? It’s too late for him to make noise now.

Doesn't he know that when you become a leader in Umno, you get compromised by all your naughty deeds and therefore you have to shut up.

Forever I mean - like former DPM Anwar Ibrahim, too, does not talk so much about Dr Mahathir Mohamad's or anyone else's corruption specifically.

Straight-Talk: Dear deputy president of Umno, you are a nobody in Umno now because cash is king.

Everyone listens to PM Najib because of the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ - they are hopeful for a piece of the pie.

Teo Chuen Tick: Just a suggestion, Muhyiddin, why not give your speech to the Umno delegates directly?

No, not at the AGM, but publish it - I am sure Malaysiakini will be happy to do so.

Tikusmati: Yes, put your proposed speech on the net. It’s more effective that way.

Anonymous_1388029052: So your so-called struggle is primarily to "uplift your race and religion"?

What about the Orang Asli, the natives in Sabah and Sarawak and the rest of us Malaysians? Don't we deserve your struggle?

Anonymous_40f4: This time Najib and Umno Baru are so scared that they even plan to lock all the doors in PWTC when they have their AGM.

Perhaps they will classify the AGM under the OSA (Official Secrets Act). Perhaps they should also switch off all the lights and light some candles for Najib and Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is now the DPM.

Or perhaps have the AGM overseas, in Zimbabwe. That way, no one will hear anything about the discussions at the AGM.

Go ahead, censure me, Nurul Izzah defies Azalina

6th Generation Immigrant: There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics and all these half-baked politicians should know that.

Here are some examples. President Macapagal claimed Sabah for the Philippines, but Malaysian leaders have met her daughter Gloria umpteen times.

Late prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman met with arch-enemy Malayan Communist Party leader Chin Peng.

We later negotiated peace, shook hands and took photographs with Malaysian communists who signed the agreement in Thailand - even an IGP (inspector-general police) was directly involved.

Indonesia was our sworn enemy, but is our closest buddy today. Last but not least, all enemies even in captivity, must be treated in accordance to the Geneva Convention. After all the Prophet had instituted the correct treatment of defeated enemies even before the signing of the convention.

So what is so bad about a Facebook photo of Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar with the daughter of the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu? This meeting may lead them to drop the Sabah claims someday.

SRMan: The dinner was hosted by legitimate bodies of the Philippines. It was not a clandestine meeting.

Nurul met the daughter of the self-styled Sulu sultan whose followers intruded into Sabah in 2013. For this, the Umno-BN leaders have accused her of treason.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said, if one day you are convicted of a crime, say corruption, would you hope that the friends or classmates of your (adopted) daughter would keep their distance from her?

Quigonbond: I think the media should be careful about how they are reporting this issue. Nurul did not apologise for meeting Jacel Kiram.

She apologises that a meeting in which she had no control over resulted in the picture taken and uploaded on Facebook and how it may cause unease, especially in Sabah.

The first hints at culpability, the second shows empathy.

Wong Fei Hoong: You're right Nurul. Sue them as they can't see the difference between black and white because they only see ringgit.

Shaking hands with the premiers of Israel and Japan is okay. But when you shake hands with somebody's daughter, it's treason. Umno is scared of its own shadow.

2Kali5: This is indeed McCarthyism in its true form in the 21st century.

Behsaikong: The Japanese invaded and occupied much of Malaya, killing many. So how come a succession of our premiers can pose with their premiers and shake their hands?
