The Umno supreme council has yet to decide whether to invite its former president Dr Mahathir Mohamad to the upcoming party general assembly, secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor said today.

According to a Berita Harian report which quoted him, he said the matter will be discussed in the near future.

Personally, I think Tun may not come. Lately, he has been lambasting the party quite often.

In any case, we'll wait and see […] whether to invite or not,” he said at a press conference at Kuala Lumpur City Hall today.

The Umno general assembly is slated to be held from Dec 8 until 12.

According to Berita Harian , Tengku Adnan said some 200 observers will be attending the meet including foreign delegations from 70 parties and agencies, according to the the Malay-language daily.

Mahathir had previously supported Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak when the latter first took over the premiership in 2009.

However, he subsequently grew increasing critical of Najib to the extent of calling for his resignation especially with regards to the 1MDB issue and the RM2.6 billion that was supposedly deposited in Najib's personal bank account.

Najib has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
