YOURSAY | ‘The only thing that does not go up is salary. Everything else skyrockets.’

Explain 'daylight robbery' on KLIA Express, Liow told

FellowMalaysian: First, the agreement between the government's Rail Asset Corporation (RAC) and KLIA Express should be made public as KLIA Express is not owned by a private company and is built with government funds.

YTL is allegedly benefitting from multiple layers of profits from their KLIA Express involvement.

And these include being the contractor of the entire rail system, as concessionaire operator through collection of rail fares, given a cut in the airport taxes in both KLIA and KLIA2, and using the government-funded KLIA-KLIA2 extension for free.

Why should the 57 percent increase in fares from KL Sentral to KLIA be allowed then? Otherwise, open the books and explain to the public how the increase was arrived at.

Gotcha: Please, for God’s sake, think wisely before imposing the fare hike from Jan 1, 2016. With the increase, you will be able to make five trips by bus.

Anonymous_40f4: In other well-managed countries, only those services that are running at a loss are privatised.

But in Bolehland, those making profits are handed over to cronies. This is piratisation. Now only foreigners can afford to take the Express Rail Link (ERL) to KLIA.

Headhunter: It looks like the trend these days with most of these crony companies is to allegedly work their sum backward when it comes to profit.

First, decide how much profit the company must make and then decide how much to raise their selling price.

It's totally irrational and as MP Ong Kian Ming said, it's daylight robbery. But then, we are talking about Bolehland, where the impossible are made possible by the stroke of a pen.

MVA: It’s Accounting 101 that farming out maintenance and other contracts to subsidiaries is usually for siphoning out profits.

P Dev Anand Pillai: The ruling elite and the decision-makers will not be bothered as the people of Malaysia are not the type that will rise up and boot them out of office.

So it will be RM55 now and may be increased to RM100 sooner or later citing all sorts of cost increase but only God knows where the extra money collected is actually going.

Until and unless the people rise up, they will just not be bothered.

Anon1: "Passengers from KL Sentral to Putrajaya/Cyberjaya will also experience a price hike of RM4.50, from RM9.50 to RM14, an increase of 47 percent"?

You get what you vote for, I guess. In fact, please keep increasing the price of everything to speed things up.

Anonymous #64627787: As a taxpayer and voter, I want answers as to how the public purse is being spent, and how much profit or loss is KLIA Express reaping in order to justify this fare hike.

Not having had a fare revision since its opening is not a good enough reason to hike rates. This public transport is not a luxury, it's a necessity.

Hopeless Govt: In Malaysia, the only thing that does not go up is salary. Everything else skyrockets.

‘I was once a racist’

Tan Kim Keong: My hope for the people of this country has been rekindled by this young and wise person, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. He is like a lit candle in a dark room who will hopefully pass the candle on to others.

Kudos to you, Saddiq. Your values epitomise what humans should be and how they should live, especially here in Malaysia in view of the prevalent institutionalised racism and bigotry.

Res Ipsa: If only everyone can be rational and think like you, Syed, Malaysia would be a better place to live in.

It has to be Malaysian first before Malay, Chinese, Indian, etc. Wouldn't it amount to wishful thinking, at least in the current state of affairs?

The Analyser: Congratulations Syed, by admitting that you were wrong you have elevated yourself to the top 0.001 percent of the Malaysian population.

You have discussed the situations that helped you expose your beliefs, but you failed to address the environment that brought about those beliefs in the first place. So let me help you out.

Insecurity as the result of the Asian way of raising children and the way of religions and children are forced into situations where they feel inadequate. The simplest way to resolve this inadequacy is to assume that everyone around you is even less adequate than you are.

Hence you look down on everyone simply to make yourself feel better, and that translates directly into racism, into all forms of discrimination.

The environment, when everyone around you is racist and your parents, peers and religion preach superiority, then it’s natural for you to adopt their standards, which evolved from their own insecurity, see above.

Ipohcrite: It takes a very brave and humble man to stand up and admit that he had previously been racist and to call upon others to refrain from racist behaviour in order to save this beautiful nation of ours.

I salute you, Syed Saddiq!
